Company overview

Eikon Therapeutics is developing medicines initially focused on cancer. Its most advanced candidate, EIK1001, is being tested with pembrolizumab for advanced melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer. Eikon has no medicines approved for sale and has never generated product-sales revenue. Future drug sales depend on completing development, securing regulatory approval and gaining acceptance from physicians, patients and the insurers or government programs that pay for treatment.

Eikon both licenses drug candidates from other companies and discovers them internally. Its proprietary imaging system tracks individual proteins in living cells to study their behavior and interactions. That system helped discover EIK1005, now in clinical trials, but Eikon’s other clinical-stage candidates were licensed from outside companies. The discovery platform remains unproven. Licenses from Seven and Eight, SW and Impact provide rights to key candidates; Impact retains commercialization rights to EIK1003 and EIK1004 in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

Operations have been funded mainly by investors through share sales, including its initial public offering. Eikon may also seek revenue through licensing or collaboration agreements. It relies on outside manufacturers for drug supplies and on access to pembrolizumab through its relationship with MSD for EIK1001 combination trials. It has no internal sales organization, so bringing an approved medicine to market would require building commercial capabilities or arranging for partners to provide them.

Eikon's prospects hinge on cancer trial results, including for programs licensed from Seven and Eight, SW and Impact that carry substantial milestone and royalty obligations.

  • IDEAYA Biosciences' IDE275 competes with Eikon's EIK1005: both are clinical-stage cancer drugs that inhibit WRN. IDE275 trial results are worth watching alongside Eikon's plans to evaluate EIK1005 in MSI-high tumors.

  • AstraZeneca competes with both of Eikon's selective PARP1 cancer drugs: AZD5305 does not penetrate the brain, like EIK1003, while AZD9574 does, like EIK1004. AZD9574's clinical results are particularly relevant to Eikon's aim of treating brain metastases and primary brain cancers with EIK1004.

  • Bolt Biotherapeutics offers a rival approach to Eikon's EIK1001: its antibodies carry immune-stimulating drugs to tumors rather than administering an immune agonist systemically. Watch BDC-4182, Bolt's clinical-development focus, for results from this tumor-targeted approach.

  • Gilead Sciences' clinical-stage GS 0201 competes with Eikon's EIK1003; both are selective PARP1 inhibitors that do not penetrate the brain. GS 0201's efficacy and safety results are the relevant comparison for EIK1003, which Eikon is testing in ovarian, breast, prostate and pancreatic cancers.

  • Inhibrx Biosciences competes with Eikon's strategy of adding an immune-activating drug to pembrolizumab in non-small cell lung cancer: its INBRX-106 activates OX40, while Eikon's EIK1001 activates TLR7/8. Watch INBRX-106's lung-cancer combination results alongside Eikon's trials, which also include chemotherapy.
