North American refineries pay Ecovyst Inc. to collect used sulfuric acid, regenerate it into high-strength acid and return it for reuse. Refineries use the acid as a catalyst to make alkylate, a gasoline-blending component. Ecovyst handles both processing and transport through its plant and logistics network, concentrated on the Gulf Coast and in California.
Ecovyst also sells newly produced sulfuric acid to mining, water-treatment and industrial customers. It charges industrial customers to treat difficult-to-handle waste, recovering sulfur and energy for reuse in its operations. Regeneration and waste treatment form the largest revenue category, while acid sales to industrial, mining and automotive uses contribute nearly as much; together they account for most of the business. Its remaining operating business is Ecoservices, following the sale of Advanced Materials & Catalysts, including the Zeolyst joint venture, to Technip Energies at the end of 2025.
The business depends on customers continuing to run their refineries and industrial processes, and on nearby plants and transport links that keep acid moving. Most revenue comes from its ten largest customers, with one customer contributing a meaningful share. Most contracts adjust prices for input costs, protect minimum volumes, or both, although cost recovery can lag. Ecovyst must also maintain environmental permits and operate pollution-control and spill-containment equipment.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Ecovyst’s continuing business depends on refinery utilization and industrial sulfuric-acid demand; Chemtrade and Nexpera are its named direct refining-services competitors, rather than the mostly diversified chemical companies shown here.
Innospec and Ecovyst both serve demand for fuel production and better fuel quality: Innospec sells fuel additives, while refineries pay Ecovyst to restore used sulfuric acid for reuse and activate catalysts for fuel production. Watch Innospec’s Fuel Specialties sales for a read on fuel-additive demand, rather than direct competition with Ecovyst’s refinery services.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Ecovyst’s policy-rate exposure runs through its SOFR-linked term loan: the Federal Reserve’s rate decision can change the interest it pays and the cash left for its acid and treatment businesses.

If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is higher than expected, the loan’s rate-linked interest cost may rise, leaving less cash for Ecovyst’s operations and investment.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is lower than expected, the loan’s rate-linked interest cost may ease, leaving more cash for Ecovyst’s operations and investment.
Ecovyst Inc. earningsThis company
Ecovyst’s quarterly report will show whether prices and volumes for sulfuric acid and refinery services are supporting profit in its continuing business.
Read continuing-operations gross profit alongside sales volume. Rising gross profit with stable or higher volume would show that quarterly pricing and raw-material pass-through are improving returns while customers keep buying; falling gross profit or volume would point to pressure on cost recovery, demand, or both.
Innospec Inc. earningsIOSP
Innospec’s report will show how fuel-additive demand is changing, offering an indirect read on refinery activity relevant to Ecovyst’s acid-regeneration and catalyst services.
Watch Innospec’s Fuel Specialties sales. Stronger sales would indicate firmer fuel-additive demand, consistent with more active fuel production at refineries and potentially supportive of demand for Ecovyst’s refinery services; weaker sales would show a softer additives market, but would not prove Ecovyst’s customers are buying less.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
Factory, mine and utility output measures demand for industrial inputs; for Ecovyst, that can affect how much acid and treatment service its industrial customers and refineries buy, and the sales volume it earns from them.
For Ecovyst, stronger factory, mine and utility output points to firmer demand for acid and treatment services from industrial customers; weaker output points to softer demand and potentially lower sales volumes.
