Bioventus’s largest source of product revenue is hyaluronic acid injections for knee osteoarthritis, sold under the Durolane, GELSYN-3 and SUPARTZ FX brands. Healthcare providers buy these treatments and generally seek payment from insurers or government healthcare programs. The company sells mainly through its own sales teams, with distributors supporting some markets, and most sales come from the United States.
The business also supplies surgeons with ultrasonic systems such as neXus and BoneScalpel for cutting bone and removing tissue, alongside bone graft products used in spinal and other orthopedic procedures. Its EXOGEN ultrasound system treats fractures that have failed to heal and certain fresh fractures. For EXOGEN, Bioventus also bills Medicare and Medicaid directly and receives their payments.
The business depends heavily on continued demand for its knee injections and on a small group of single-source manufacturers that supply them. One customer, mainly in the United States, accounts for a significant share of sales. Physicians’ willingness to use the products and payers’ coverage and reimbursement decisions affect demand. New devices, new uses and significant device modifications generally require FDA clearance or approval before U.S. sales.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Bioventus’s largest business depends on osteoarthritis treatment demand and reimbursement, making private rivals Ferring Pharmaceuticals and Fidia Farmaceutici important companies to watch beyond this list.
Anika Therapeutics competes directly with Bioventus for osteoarthritis pain treatment: its Orthovisc, Monovisc and Cingal rival Bioventus’s hyaluronic acid injections. Watch Anika’s osteoarthritis product sales for clues to demand and competition facing Durolane, which drove Bioventus’s U.S. Pain Treatments growth in 2025.
Orthofix Medical competes with Bioventus in devices that stimulate bone healing and biological materials used in spinal fusion. Its bone-growth therapy sales are worth watching alongside Bioventus’s EXOGEN fracture-healing system, while its spinal biologics overlap with Bioventus’s bone grafts.
Xtant Medical competes with Bioventus to supply bone graft materials for spinal fusion and other orthopedic procedures, selling through sales agents and distributors with access to hospital networks and purchasing groups. Its orthobiologics sales offer a closer comparison for Bioventus’s graft business than its spinal fixation systems do.
Enovis competes with Bioventus’s EXOGEN by selling devices that stimulate bone growth. Watch those products within Enovis’s Prevention & Recovery business rather than its joint-replacement implants when assessing competition in fracture healing.
Zimmer Biomet competes with Bioventus for orthopedic providers’ purchases of pain treatments and surgical products. Its news on orthopedic surgical products, biological materials and pricing is more relevant to this overlap than its broad regional results alone.
Integra LifeSciences competes with Bioventus in equipment that uses ultrasound to remove tissue during neurosurgery. Watch its ultrasonic tissue-ablation products within Codman Specialty Surgical for the competition facing Bioventus’s neurosurgical ultrasonic systems.
Globus Medical and Bioventus compete to sell biological materials and surgical instruments to providers performing spinal and other musculoskeletal procedures. Globus’s products in those areas are the relevant comparison for Bioventus’s bone grafts and ultrasonic surgical tools, rather than its imaging and robotic systems.
Pacira BioSciences competes with Bioventus for patients seeking knee osteoarthritis pain relief without surgery: its ZILRETTA injection is an alternative to Bioventus’s hyaluronic acid injections.
Alphatec competes with Bioventus to supply biological materials used in spinal fusion, where Bioventus sells bone graft substitutes. Watch surgeon adoption of Alphatec’s procedures, but its overall revenue does not isolate the biologics that overlap with Bioventus.
Stryker competes with Bioventus for surgical-product purchases by orthopedic and neurological surgery providers. Its orthopedic and neurotechnology product news is worth watching for competition facing Bioventus’s bone grafts and ultrasonic surgical systems.
Integra LifeSciences Holdings earningsIART
Integra LifeSciences’s report will show whether neurosurgery providers are buying more ultrasonic tissue-ablation equipment, which competes with Bioventus’s ultrasonic surgical systems.
Look for sales or demand signals for ultrasonic tissue-ablation products within Codman Specialty Surgical. Strength would indicate firmer provider demand for this equipment and more competition for Bioventus’s neurosurgical ultrasonic systems; weakness would suggest less pressure from this rival, but would not establish Bioventus’s own sales.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s rate decision signals the direction of borrowing costs; higher rates can raise interest expense on Bioventus’s debt not covered by swaps and leave less cash for operations.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed’s rate is higher than expected, interest rates may rise and increase the cost of Bioventus’s unhedged debt, leaving less cash for its product sales and operations.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed’s rate is lower than expected, interest rates may fall and reduce the cost of Bioventus’s unhedged debt, leaving more cash available for operations.
Bioventus Inc. earningsThis company
Bioventus’s report will show whether growth in pain-treatment and surgical products can offset pressure in fracture care while protecting gross margin.
Read Pain Treatments and Surgical Solutions sales alongside Restorative Therapies sales, which include EXOGEN, and gross margin. Growth in the first two, steadier restorative sales and a maintained margin would show growth broadening beyond a few products and reaching profit. Slower core sales, continued restorative pressure or a falling margin would point to uneven growth and less durable profit improvement.
Anika Therapeutics Inc earningsANIK
Anika Therapeutics’s osteoarthritis injections compete with Bioventus’s Durolane, so their sales offer clues to demand and competition for hyaluronic acid injections.
Look at sales of osteoarthritis products such as Orthovisc, Monovisc and Cingal. Strength would show continued demand for these injections, but also stronger competition for Durolane; weakness could reflect a softer treatment category or Anika losing ground, which this report alone cannot separate.
Enovis Corporation earningsENOV
Enovis’s bone-growth devices compete with Bioventus’s EXOGEN for fracture-healing demand, so relevant product sales show what both businesses face in this category.
Look at bone-growth devices within Enovis’s Prevention & Recovery business, not its joint-replacement implants. Stronger relevant sales would signal greater demand for these fracture-healing devices, but also more competition for EXOGEN; weakness would suggest less pressure from Enovis, not substitute for Bioventus’s own EXOGEN sales.
Xtant Medical Holdings, Inc. earningsXTNT
Xtant Medical’s orthobiologics compete with Bioventus’s bone graft substitutes for spinal-fusion and other orthopedic procedures, making their sales a read on demand and competition in that market.
Focus on Xtant’s orthobiologics sales, not its spinal fixation systems. Growth would indicate active provider demand for graft materials, but also a competitor winning more business; weakness would suggest less pressure from Xtant, not necessarily a weaker overall market.
