Company

Company overview

Brookfield Wealth Solutions Ltd. mainly helps individuals save for retirement and companies transfer pension obligations to an insurer. Annuities generate most of its revenue. Individuals put money into contracts that provide future payments, while corporate pension sponsors pay to transfer agreed pension payments and the risk that pensioners live longer than expected. The company also takes on other insurers’ obligations through reinsurance.

Its insurance subsidiaries invest the assets backing these promises in bonds, mortgage and private loans, and alternative assets. A central source of earnings is the difference between investment returns and the cost of meeting policyholder obligations; investment income is its largest revenue source. Alongside annuities, Clearbrook provides property and casualty coverage, collecting premiums to cover claims, while American National provides life insurance, mainly to U.S. retail customers.

The business depends on matching investment cash flows with future payments and pricing contracts using realistic assumptions about claims, longevity and withdrawals. Brookfield Asset Management manages investments under agreements, and Brookfield provides administrative services and access to capital. Insurance rules limit what subsidiaries can sell and invest in, require them to retain capital, and restrict payments to the holding company, which depends partly on subsidiary cash transfers to meet its own obligations.

  • Brookfield Corporation directly supplies capital to Brookfield Wealth Solutions, one of its three core businesses, in exchange for shares. Watch its capital-allocation decisions: in 2025 it contributed roughly $3.3 billion of BAM shares in return for newly issued shares and a note later converted into shares.

  • Apollo Global Management’s Athene business competes with Brookfield Wealth Solutions for fixed-annuity savings, payments from employers transferring pension obligations, and institutional funding agreements. Athene’s activity in those retirement businesses is the part of Apollo to watch for this rivalry.

  • Corebridge Financial competes with Brookfield Wealth Solutions for retirement savings through fixed and indexed annuities and institutional retirement products. Both earn the gap between investment returns and what they owe policyholders, making Corebridge’s spread income the earnings line to watch.

  • KKR & Co.’s Global Atlantic competes with Brookfield Wealth Solutions for fixed-annuity savings and for insurers seeking to transfer life and annuity obligations through reinsurance. Both support these businesses with alternative investment capabilities; watch Global Atlantic’s activity in those two insurance markets.

  • Brookfield Wealth Solutions depends on Brookfield Asset Management to source and manage investments backing its insurance obligations, paying asset-based fees for that work. Watch the returns and fees on those portfolios: its earnings depend on investing at returns above the cost of policyholder liabilities.

  • W.R. Berkley competes with Brookfield Wealth Solutions’ Clearbrook for businesses buying specialized commercial property and casualty coverage. Berkley’s news about its specialized customer markets offers a closer comparison for Clearbrook than its overall insurance results.

  • Markel Group competes with Brookfield Wealth Solutions’ Clearbrook in specialty casualty coverage and insurance programs, including fronting operations. Watch Markel’s specialty underwriting profits and product coverage, rather than its equity-market gains: they speak more directly to the insurance business Clearbrook faces.

  • Chubb competes with Brookfield Wealth Solutions’ Clearbrook for overlapping buyers of commercial property, casualty and specialty insurance. Watch Chubb’s pricing and risk-selection decisions in those lines, where it prioritizes underwriting quality over sales volume or market share.
