Company overview

Brookfield Business Corporation is a holding company, not a business that sells directly to customers. It holds its operating-business interests through Brookfield Business Partners and Holding LP. Cash from those businesses passes through the holding entities to cover the company’s expenses and dividends; debt payments, local laws and financing agreements can limit how much reaches it.

Industrials generate most of the group’s revenue. Its automotive battery business sells mainly to aftermarket retailers supplying replacement batteries, with vehicle manufacturers providing a smaller sales channel. This makes replacement demand an important source of business, alongside new-vehicle production. In Brazil, its water and wastewater operation serves residential and government customers under long-term concessions and contracts linked to inflation.

Business services provide the next-largest revenue stream. Automotive dealerships pay subscriptions for software that runs their sales, servicing and administrative work, while Canadian mortgage lenders buy insurance against borrowers defaulting. Infrastructure services contribute a smaller share, including rental income from temporary modular workspaces used by industrial, infrastructure and public-sector customers.

Brookfield controls the company, and Brookfield Asset Management subsidiaries provide its management and administration. The company also depends on Brookfield to present acquisition opportunities, though Brookfield is not obliged to source them. It conducts its activities to avoid registration as an investment company under U.S. law, which can require it to limit acquisitions or operations, change its structure or sell assets.

Brookfield Business Partners is the closest comparison missing from this list; watch its portfolio for automotive replacement-battery demand, operating improvements and business sales that heavily influence Brookfield Business Corporation’s results.

  • Brookfield Corporation’s 43% stake in Brookfield Business Partners gives it direct exposure to the same operating businesses behind Brookfield Business Corporation, which earn revenue from business services, infrastructure services and industrial products. Watch those businesses’ cash generation: the partnership pays a modest distribution and reinvests most of its funds from operations rather than passing them to Brookfield Corporation.

  • Brookfield Business Corporation depends on Brookfield Asset Management for management, while the manager earns fees and performance income from investing institutional and private wealth clients’ money, linking both to operating improvements and successful investment sales. Watch cash redemptions from its evergreen private-equity fund: Brookfield Business Corporation received fund units for selling stakes in its engineered components, dealer software and work access businesses, but the timing and proceeds of remaining redemptions are not assured.
