Company

Company overview

Banner Corp. is the holding company for wholly owned Banner Bank, which serves businesses, individuals and public-sector borrowers primarily in Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. The bank gathers deposits to fund lending, including credit for small and medium-sized businesses and property financing. Borrowers pay interest, and the bank also earns interest on investment securities. Most revenue comes from the interest left after paying depositors and other funding providers.

The bank also originates home mortgages and generally sells them to secondary-market investors, earning loan-sale gains and fees when it retains servicing responsibilities.

The business depends on retaining deposits, the gap between lending yields and funding costs, and borrowers’ ability to repay. Most loans are secured by real estate, while clients are concentrated in Puget Sound and Eastern Washington, tying the bank closely to local property markets and economic conditions. Regulatory capital requirements constrain capital distributions, and Banner Corp. relies on dividends from the bank, which are also subject to regulatory limits.
