AEVEX Corp. supplies military and intelligence customers with unmanned aircraft and surface vehicles for reconnaissance and other defense missions. Its Tactical Systems business generates most revenue by designing and manufacturing these systems and providing related support. Its CompassX software helps unmanned systems navigate and operate autonomously, including where GPS is unavailable. The smaller Global Solutions business modifies and tests mission aircraft and provides flight operations, intelligence analysis and other mission services.
Most revenue comes directly from the U.S. Government, particularly Department of War agencies; customers also include special operations forces, the intelligence community and allied militaries. AEVEX usually acts as the prime contractor, responsible for delivering the contracted work. Customers pay through fixed-price, cost-plus-fee and time-and-materials contracts. On fixed-price work, AEVEX bears costs that exceed the agreed price; cost-plus-fee work reimburses allowable costs and adds a fee, subject to a ceiling.
The business depends heavily on winning and executing government contracts and on continued defense funding. Government customers can stop work or terminate contracts. Ukraine end-users accounted for a substantial share of revenue in 2025, leaving demand exposed to changes in military operations and aid priorities. Certain projects require personnel and facility security clearances, while international sales require export authorizations. China also prohibits AEVEX from China-related imports and exports and has imposed new investment bans.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
AEVEX’s results hinge on U.S.-funded military drone purchases and Ukraine-related demand, while private rivals Anduril Industries and Shield AI also deserve watching.
AeroVironment competes with AEVEX to sell military customers unmanned aircraft and weapons that wait airborne before striking, known as loitering munitions. Watch its awards for these products from U.S. and allied governments, rather than its broader defense sales.
AIRO Group Holdings and AEVEX compete to sell military reconnaissance drones that fly autonomously without reliable GPS signals, and both face Ukraine-related demand exposure. Watch news of AIRO’s RQ-35 Heidrun use in Ukraine for evidence of demand for these battlefield capabilities.
Elbit Systems competes with AEVEX for military customers buying unmanned systems and attack systems designed for a one-way mission. Its Aerospace business’s unmanned-aircraft work is more relevant to this rivalry than its wider sales of land, naval and other systems.
Textron competes with AEVEX to supply military customers with weapons that wait airborne before striking, known as loitering munitions. Watch that business specifically: Textron also sells conventional aircraft and has other substantial businesses, so its overall results are a less direct comparison.
Lockheed Martin competes with AEVEX for military programs buying uncrewed systems and weapons that wait airborne before striking, known as loitering munitions. Those awards matter more for this comparison than Lockheed’s overall results, since these products are a smaller part of its diversified business serving mainly U.S. government agencies and allies.
Northrop Grumman competes with AEVEX to modify mission aircraft and integrate their equipment for defense and intelligence customers. Watch contracts for that work: they overlap with AEVEX’s Global Solutions business, whereas Northrop’s broader production and support contracts cover much more.
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) competes with AEVEX’s Global Solutions for government contracts providing mission engineering, intelligence and operational services. Its Defense and Intelligence business is the relevant area to watch, rather than its civilian-government IT work.
Booz Allen Hamilton competes with AEVEX’s Global Solutions to provide government customers with intelligence, engineering and mission operations services. Watch its federal defense and intelligence work rather than commercial cybersecurity sales, which sit outside this overlap.
Northrop Grumman Corp. earningsNOC
Northrop Grumman's report on mission-aircraft modification and equipment integration will show whether government customers are funding work that its Global Solutions business competes with AEVEX to win.
Focus on Northrop Grumman contracts for mission-aircraft modification and equipment integration, not its much broader production and support work. More such contracts would show customers are still funding this work, while Northrop is also competing for projects AEVEX could pursue; fewer or delayed contracts would point to weaker opportunities and demand, not prove that AEVEX will win more share.
Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corporation earningsBAH
Booz Allen Hamilton's federal defense and intelligence work will show how government customers are funding intelligence, engineering and mission operations services that compete with AEVEX Global Solutions.
Watch Booz Allen Hamilton's federal defense and intelligence work, not commercial cybersecurity, which is outside this overlap. More relevant work and contract awards would show that government customers are still funding intelligence, engineering and mission operations, while Booz Allen is also competing for those contracts; weaker or delayed work would point to fewer service opportunities for AEVEX Global Solutions.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For AEVEX, the Fed’s rate decision signals the direction of borrowing costs, which can change what it pays on variable-rate credit-facility debt and leave less or more earnings after interest.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can raise interest expense on AEVEX’s variable-rate debt, leaving less earnings after interest and less cash for operations, investment or debt repayment.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can ease interest expense on AEVEX’s variable-rate debt, leaving more earnings after interest and more cash available for operations, investment or debt repayment.
AEVEX Corp. earningsThis company
AEVEX's report will show whether sales of Tactical Systems products and Global Solutions work are turning into earnings despite contract costs and changes in business mix.
Compare revenue from Tactical Systems and Global Solutions with each segment's Adjusted EBITDA, then check product gross margin and funded backlog. Funded backlog is awarded work with funding, not unexercised options; rising revenue alongside steady segment earnings and product margins, with backlog replenished, would show contracts turning into profitable work and supporting future activity. If revenue rises but margins weaken or funded backlog shrinks, costs or contract mix are eating into growth and less awarded work remains ahead.
AeroVironment, Inc. earningsAVAV
AeroVironment's report on government awards for unmanned aircraft and loitering munitions will show how U.S. and allied customers are funding products that compete with AEVEX Tactical Systems.
Watch AeroVironment's awards from U.S. and allied governments for unmanned aircraft and loitering munitions, not its overall defense sales. More relevant awards would show customers are still buying these capabilities, but AeroVironment is also winning work that competes with AEVEX Tactical Systems; fewer awards would suggest softer demand for the category, potentially easing competition while leaving fewer market opportunities.
