Company

Company overview

Arcutis Biotherapeutics sells ZORYVE in the United States and Canada to treat plaque psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis. These medicines contain roflumilast and are applied to the skin. Product sales provide nearly all revenue, with ZORYVE foam and the plaque-psoriasis cream contributing most.

Sales depend on prescription demand and on private insurers and government health programs covering treatment and providing adequate reimbursement. A small group of major customers accounts for much of gross product sales. Arcutis also receives license fees and milestone payments from Huadong for rights in Greater China and Southeast Asia and Sato Pharmaceutical for rights in Japan, but these are a much smaller revenue source.

The business relies on rights licensed from AstraZeneca, to which Arcutis owes royalties on covered product sales, and on single-source outside manufacturers for ZORYVE supplies. Arcutis may promote its medicines only for uses consistent with their approved labeling; additional uses require regulatory approval before promotion.

Arcutis's results hinge on ZORYVE prescription growth and payer coverage in inflammatory skin diseases, where Galderma and LEO Pharma are important competitors missing from this list.

  • Pfizer competes for atopic dermatitis patients with Arcutis's ZORYVE creams through its topical Eucrisa and oral Cibinqo. Eucrisa also blocks PDE4, making it a particularly relevant rival among medicines applied to the skin.

  • Bausch Health competes directly with Arcutis for plaque psoriasis patients by selling topical treatments including Duobrii and Bryhali, alternatives to ZORYVE psoriasis products.

  • Novartis competes with Arcutis over plaque psoriasis treatment choices by selling Cosentyx, although Cosentyx treats the disease systemically rather than through a topical medicine like ZORYVE.

  • Oruka Therapeutics, Inc. could eventually compete for psoriasis patients using Arcutis's ZORYVE, though its antibodies act systemically and serve different treatment settings from topical medicines. It has no approved products or revenue yet; development progress on its psoriasis candidates ORKA-001 and ORKA-002 is the news to watch.

  • Aclaris Therapeutics, Inc. is developing immune-inflammatory treatments, including topical lepzacitinib, that could compete with Arcutis's ZORYVE atopic dermatitis creams. For lepzacitinib, watch its search for a partner to develop and commercialize the drug outside Greater China.

  • Arcutis relies on AstraZeneca's license for exclusive worldwide rights to use roflumilast in topical skin-disease treatments such as ZORYVE, paying AstraZeneca sales royalties and milestone payments. ZORYVE growth therefore brings license costs too: Arcutis paid a $10 million milestone when worldwide net sales reached $250 million in May 2025.
