Company

Company overview

Yimutian helps farmers and food producers find business buyers, including wholesalers, restaurants and grocery stores. Its Yimutian App matches agricultural supply with buyer demand, while Douniu App supports offline selling at wholesale markets. Merchants pay for memberships that provide tools such as premium storefronts, and for advertising and other value-added services. Memberships supply most revenue, followed by value-added services; fees for facilitating transactions contribute much less.

The business depends on sellers continuing to offer products buyers want and finding enough value in its services to keep paying. Sellers use outside truck drivers and logistics providers that Yimutian does not control, so successful delivery also depends on those providers.

Its seller-marketing services are subject to mainland China’s internet-advertising rules: Yimutian must distinguish paid search results from unpaid results, monitor advertising and verify required advertiser qualifications. The company also says it needs additional financing to continue operations and is seeking funding or extensions of existing debt.
