Company overview

Viemed Healthcare, Inc. helps patients with chronic respiratory conditions receive treatment at home. It supplies ventilators and related equipment, while licensed respiratory therapists set up equipment, train patients and provide on-call support. Ventilator rentals generate most of its revenue. The company also provides other home medical equipment and supplies, women’s health products and services, and staffing for healthcare facilities.

Medicare is its largest individual payor; private insurers and other healthcare programs also reimburse its services. Much of its revenue follows payment rates set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, so the business depends on insurance coverage, reimbursement rates and timely payment—not just patient demand. Medicare coverage for home ventilation requires patients to meet medical-necessity criteria. Viemed must also maintain state medical-equipment supplier licenses and the accreditation many payors require to remain eligible to provide services and collect reimbursement.

Viemed Healthcare, Inc.’s results hinge on home ventilator patient growth and reimbursement rates set by CMS, while Lincare and Quipt Home Medical are important home respiratory competitors missing from this list.

  • AdaptHealth Corp. competes with Viemed Healthcare, Inc. for patients referred for home respiratory care, providing ventilation, oxygen and sleep-apnea equipment and services. Its Respiratory Health and Sleep Health results are worth watching for signs of demand in the home-care businesses they share.

  • Inogen Inc’s direct sales and rentals of portable equipment that supplies oxygen compete with Viemed Healthcare, Inc.’s home oxygen offerings, though ventilator rentals are Viemed’s largest business. Watch Inogen’s direct-to-consumer sales and rentals for signs of competition for oxygen patients, rather than as a readout of Viemed’s core ventilation business.
