UL Solutions Inc. helps businesses show that their products meet safety, regulatory and performance requirements. Customers pay it to test products, components and systems, often during product development. When applicable requirements are met, it may authorize use of certification marks such as the UL Mark. Customers then pay for periodic inspections, audits, sample testing and label services to maintain certification and the right to use those marks. Initial testing and ongoing certification together account for most of its revenue.
A substantial part of the remaining revenue comes from testing performance, quality and reliability without necessarily issuing a certification, and from related technical and advisory work. A smaller software business sells subscriptions and licenses that help customers manage regulatory requirements, supply-chain information and sustainability.
Demand depends heavily on governments, retailers and other private-sector organizations requiring independent testing and certification. UL Solutions must maintain licenses and accreditations to provide its services, and impartiality rules restrict some advisory work involving products it also certifies.
China supplies a significant share of revenue. UL Solutions controls the UL-CCIC joint venture with Chinese state-owned enterprise CCIC, which also performs a substantial share of its worldwide ongoing certification inspections under a separate contract. Its certification business also relies on UL Mark labels currently supplied by a single U.S. supplier.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
UL Solutions Inc.’s results hinge on manufacturers’ demand for new-product testing and ongoing certification compliance across industrial and consumer markets, not on any demonstrated material exposure to the companies considered for this list.

UL Solutions’ report will show whether growth in testing and certification is also translating into stronger operating profit.
Read revenue growth alongside operating margin, the share of revenue left after operating costs. Revenue rising while the margin holds or improves would show that added testing and ongoing certification work is not being swallowed by costs; revenue rising as the margin falls would show costs growing faster than fees and weaker operating returns from the added work.
