Company

Company overview

Tantech Holdings supplies household products for odor removal, purification and cleaning under its Charcoal Doctor brand, its main revenue source. Purification and deodorization products form its largest consumer-product category. It also buys barbecue charcoal from other producers for resale through its distribution network, an important revenue source, and trades charcoal for industrial use.

Distributors in China buy most of its products and sell them onward through their networks. A small group of major customers accounts for most sales, so the business depends on their orders and payments. Wholesale customers often pay well after delivery, and Tantech uses bank financing to bridge the gap. Production also depends on reliable charcoal supplies; its low-price positioning makes higher material costs difficult to pass on to customers.

Tantech is a British Virgin Islands holding company whose core businesses operate through Chinese subsidiaries. Its access to their earnings depends on dividend payments, which Chinese law limits to after-tax profits after required reserves. Currency-conversion and remittance controls can also restrict transfers to the parent.
