Company

Company overview

Sypris Solutions Inc gets most of its revenue from Sypris Electronics, which builds circuit boards, complete electronic units and integrated systems for aerospace, defense, space and other customers requiring highly reliable electronics. Customers pay it to turn designs into finished hardware, from prototypes to production runs. On U.S. government programs, it works as a subcontractor to larger companies, not as the government’s prime contractor.

Its other business, Sypris Technologies, sells steel drivetrain components to vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers, along with high-pressure closures and other fabricated products for pipeline operators, builders and industrial customers. Demand for this work depends on vehicle production and energy customers’ capital spending.

Revenue is concentrated among a few customers: Northrop Grumman is the largest, with Detroit Diesel and SubCom also significant. Many contracts make Sypris the exclusive supplier of a particular part for the contract’s duration, but multi-year contracts generally do not guarantee minimum purchases. The electronics business also depends on federal program funding and access to specified components, some available from only one supplier. Aerospace and defense work requires stringent certification, security clearances and traceability; maintaining the necessary regulatory approvals is essential to continuing that work.

Sypris also depends on commercial-truck production and orders from Detroit Diesel and SubCom, which accounted for 13% and 11% of its 2025 revenue, respectively.

  • Northrop Grumman buys from Sypris and supplied approximately 23% of its 2025 revenue, making its orders important to Sypris’s manufacturing business. Northrop earns most of its business from government-funded development, production and support contracts, so watch defense funding and production schedules: Sypris works as a subcontractor and also depends on that funding.

  • Celestica competes with Sypris for contracts to manufacture electronics for aerospace and defense equipment makers. Watch those customers within Celestica’s Advanced Technology Solutions business, rather than its cloud and data-center work, for signs of competition for Sypris’s circuit-card and full-system manufacturing orders.

  • Jabil competes with Sypris for aerospace and defense companies’ outsourced circuit-board and systems-assembly work. Jabil helps customers design, build and test products; watch its pricing, quality and delivery in that work, which are factors Sypris identifies in winning manufacturing orders.
