Company

Company overview

SOS Limited connects suppliers and buyers of commodities such as soybeans, wheat and latex, with trading accounting for the substantial majority of its revenue. Its customers are mainly businesses in China. Revenue depends heavily on a small group of buyers, led by Qingdao West Travel Trading Co., Ltd., whose orders are not necessarily covered by long-term agreements.

The company often pays suppliers before goods arrive and then collects payment from buyers. This makes supplier delivery and customer payment central to the business, while commodity-price changes between purchase commitments and completed sales determine how much trading margin it keeps.

SOS also charges third-party cryptocurrency miners to operate equipment at its Wisconsin facility, a much smaller source of revenue. It suspended its own mining because its equipment was no longer economical to run and shifted toward hosting. China's ban on certain cryptocurrency mining had prompted the move to Wisconsin. Hosting demand depends on whether customers can mine economically, particularly given cryptocurrency prices and electricity costs.

Know what’s buried in SOS’s filings before you buy

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.

SOS Limited’s results depend mainly on Chinese physical-commodity trading volumes, thin margins and whether counterparties pay, while bitcoin and ether prices also affect earnings through its holdings.

  • StoneX Group Inc. shares SOS Limited’s exposure to physical agricultural and industrial commodity trading: SOS connects suppliers with buyers and earns the price difference, while StoneX’s Commercial segment also trades physical commodities and provides financing and logistics to commercial clients. Watch StoneX’s physical-commodity trading activity rather than its broader client commissions and fees when comparing it with SOS’s trading volumes and margins.

  • Bit Digital, Inc. and SOS Limited share exposure to digital-asset prices, rather than being current direct mining competitors: Bit Digital holds ether and stakes it to help validate blockchain transactions, while SOS holds bitcoin and ether. Bit Digital’s ether treasury and staking strategy is the part to watch alongside SOS’s digital-asset holdings.
