Company

Company overview

Sentage Holdings helps merchants accept prepaid cards that consumers use to pay for purchases. Through Qingdao Buytop, it issues cards and provides payment-system integration, tailored payment solutions and staff training. Its current revenue comes entirely from technology consulting and support, rather than transaction-processing fees. Merchants pay these service fees upfront, based on an agreed estimate of annual transaction value. The company has discontinued its loan repayment and collection management and loan recommendation businesses.

The operating companies currently have a single customer, Zhiwei Cultural Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., making revenue dependent on that relationship. They also rely on NetsUnion Clearing Corporation to clear payment transactions. Qingdao Buytop’s licensed business is limited to offline prepaid-card issuance and acceptance; it does not provide online payment services, payment accounts or customer settlement services.

Sentage Holdings controls its Chinese operating companies through contracts rather than equity ownership. Those companies pay its wholly foreign-owned Chinese subsidiary under business cooperation agreements, and the holding company expects to receive cash through that subsidiary’s dividends. This arrangement depends on enforceable contracts, continued payment licenses and Chinese restrictions on dividends and cross-border transfers.

Sentage’s results hinge on demand for prepaid-payment consulting from its sole customer, Zhiwei Cultural Development (Shanghai), amid competition from Alipay and WeChat Pay—not on the lending businesses represented among the candidates.
