Despite its name, Boston Beer Company sells far more beverages outside traditional beer than traditional beer by volume. Its brands include Twisted Tea, Truly Hard Seltzer, Angry Orchard cider and Sun Cruiser ready-to-drink spirits, alongside Samuel Adams and Dogfish Head beers. It makes most domestic volume at its own breweries, supplemented by contract producers including City Brewing.
The business is predominantly American. Independent distributors buy its beverages and resell them to retailers, which reach drinkers through stores, bars and restaurants. No single distributor accounts for a large share of sales, but Boston Beer depends on the network’s support: its products are usually not distributors’ primary brands. Some state laws limit its ability to enforce distribution contracts or end those relationships.
Production also depends on specialty flavorings, many available from only one supplier; Twisted Tea and Truly particularly rely on these ingredients and flavor variety. Alcohol licenses and product approvals govern its ability to operate and introduce beverages, and authorities can suspend or revoke licenses for violations.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Boston Beer’s results hinge on U.S. demand for drinks beyond traditional beer and competition from privately held Mark Anthony, while City Brewing remains an important contract producer with minimum-volume commitments.
Molson Coors competes with Boston Beer for U.S. drinkers and retail shelf space across beer, flavored malt drinks, hard seltzers and ready-to-drink spirits cocktails. Watch its pricing and product launches in those categories for pressure on Boston Beer’s sales and market share.
AB InBev uses its larger brand portfolio and distribution network to compete with Boston Beer for U.S. buyers of beer, flavored malt drinks, hard seltzers and ready-to-drink spirits cocktails. Its scale supports spending on brand marketing, making its product launches and promotions worth watching for pressure on Boston Beer.
Constellation Brands’ Modelo and Corona beers compete with Boston Beer’s brands for U.S. alcohol spending, distributor attention and shelf space; both companies sell beverages through distributors that supply retailers. Watch Constellation’s beer sales for how these rival brands are doing with U.S. buyers.
Ardagh Metal Packaging supplies aluminum beverage cans to Boston Beer, which packaged about 82% of its 2025 volume in cans, making this supplier important to its costs. Watch the dispute over alleged unmet minimum can purchases for 2021–2026: Boston Beer denies breaching the contract, and Ardagh’s initial demand was roughly $300 million or more, plus interest if applicable.
Diageo’s Guinness beer and spirits brands compete with Boston Beer’s beer and expanding ready-to-drink spirits cocktails for drinkers’ spending and retail placement. Watch Guinness and Diageo’s spirits business as competition for Boston Beer extends beyond beer to products such as Sun Cruiser.

Boston Beer’s report will show whether its brands can steady shipments to distributors and sales through to retailers while holding gains in revenue and cost per barrel.
Read distributor shipments alongside depletions—the volume distributors sell onward to retailers—and compare revenue per barrel with cost of goods sold per barrel. Improving shipments and depletions, with revenue per barrel holding and costs contained, would show brands such as Twisted Tea and Truly are supporting firmer volume and gross profit. Continued depletion declines, or volume supported by lower revenue per barrel while costs rise, would show demand remains weak and pricing and efficiency gains are not enough to offset it.
Ardagh Metal Packaging S.A. earningsAMBP
Ardagh Metal Packaging’s report will show how this can supplier’s business and unresolved purchase dispute could affect Boston Beer’s can supply and costs.
Boston Beer packaged about 82% of its 2025 volume in cans, and third parties produced about 14% of its domestic shipments, so watch Ardagh’s disclosures on can supply and costs alongside the minimum-purchase dispute. Stable supply and no sign of a material dispute cost would leave Boston Beer’s packaging path more manageable; supply disruption or a potentially large expense would raise its cost or fulfillment risk. Ardagh’s report alone cannot establish the dispute’s outcome or Boston Beer’s actual loss.
Molson Coors Beverage Company earningsTAP
Molson Coors’ report will show how its U.S. beer and adjacent beverage sales signal competition for the drinkers and retail shelf space Boston Beer also needs.
Focus on Molson Coors’ U.S. volume and pricing in beer and adjacent categories, especially where its products compete with Boston Beer’s Twisted Tea and hard seltzers for drinkers and shelf space. Strong category volume with steady pricing would show a rival still drawing buyers and holding retail space, making Boston Beer’s own volume or pricing harder to improve. Weakness would ease that competitive signal, but would not establish that Boston Beer gained share.
