Company

Company overview

Rave Restaurant Group, Inc. grants restaurant operators the right to use its Pizza Inn and Pie Five brands and operating systems. Pizza Inn, whose restaurants are mostly pizza buffets, supplies most of the company’s revenue; Pie Five is a smaller fast-casual pizza business. Franchisees pay fees to join and continuing royalties tied to their restaurant sales. Pizza Inn operates through franchisees in the United States and abroad, while Pie Five’s franchise network is domestic.

Rave also arranges access to food, equipment and supplies through third-party distributors. Suppliers and distributors pay it incentives linked to franchisees’ purchases; these payments are its largest revenue source, ahead of royalties. Franchisees also contribute to company-managed advertising funds. Revenue therefore depends on restaurant sales, the number of restaurants and what franchisees buy through distributors. One supplier provides a substantial share of total revenue.

RAVE’s results hinge chiefly on Pizza Inn franchise sales, restaurant openings and closures, and franchisees’ food purchases that earn RAVE payments from suppliers and distributors.

  • Domino’s competes with RAVE’s Pizza Inn and Pie Five for pizza customers, and both companies collect royalties based on their franchisees’ restaurant sales. Watch Domino’s pizza delivery and carryout sales for a read on that competition.
