Company

Company overview

Quad/Graphics helps businesses turn marketing campaigns into materials and messages that reach consumers. Retailers, consumer-goods brands, financial-services firms and healthcare businesses pay it to produce and distribute items such as catalogs, retail inserts and direct mail. Printed products generate most of its revenue, and the business is concentrated in the United States. Its operations connect print preparation, paper purchasing, ink manufacturing and production with delivery and mailing.

Clients can also hire Quad to manage campaigns from planning and creative work through production, distribution and measurement, including digital and broadcast channels. Its Rise agency plans and buys advertising media, while Betty develops creative content. Managed Services teams handle clients’ day-to-day marketing execution, sometimes working within their operations. These services extend the company beyond printing without replacing print as its main revenue source.

The business depends on clients renewing contracts and continuing to spend on marketing; no single client accounts for a dominant share of sales. Print demand is declining as clients shift to digital channels. Mailing also relies on the U.S. Postal Service, whose prices and service levels influence how much clients print and send. Privacy, information-security and do-not-mail requirements constrain how Quad handles consumer information and conducts marketing work.

Quad’s results hinge on clients’ marketing budgets and their shift from print to digital; watch USPS postage rates and service quality for their influence on demand for mailed marketing.

  • Cimpress PLC competes with Quad for customers buying customized printed marketing materials and branded merchandise, but focuses on small online orders rather than Quad’s integrated enterprise campaigns and large-scale production. Its low-volume order business offers a view of demand for customized print, not a direct read on Quad’s enterprise campaign business.

    JOLTs Job Openings (Sep)

Job openings measure advertised vacancies, and tighter demand for workers may make it harder and costlier for Quad to recruit the skilled production employees it needs to fulfill client work.

    Non Farm Payrolls (Oct)
