Impinj helps businesses connect individual items to information systems using wireless tags and equipment that reads them. Its technology uses the RAIN radio standard. Retail apparel is its largest market, with other uses in supply chains and logistics. Most revenue comes from endpoint chips attached to or embedded in items: tag manufacturers buy the chips, and suppliers typically need another chip for each new item sold, creating repeat purchases.
Impinj also sells reader chips, readers, gateways and tag-production equipment. It reaches most end users through equipment manufacturers, distributors and solution partners rather than selling directly. A small group of customers accounts for most revenue, so orders from these intermediaries matter greatly. Software and cloud services support the hardware business but are not yet material standalone revenue sources.
Demand depends on businesses adopting RAIN and integrating its data into their existing systems. Supply depends on outsourced manufacturing, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for chip wafers, which Impinj buys without a long-term supply agreement. Readers and gateways must meet local radio-spectrum and certification rules; regulatory changes can require redesign or prevent sales in affected markets.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
NXP competes with Impinj to sell the chips embedded in item tags, but also pays Impinj annual fees to use specified patented technology. Those license fees contributed $16 million to Impinj’s revenue in the second quarter of 2025, making NXP both a rival and a revenue source.
Zebra Technologies competes with Impinj for spending on readers that identify and track tagged items using radio signals, known as RFID. Zebra’s RFID offerings sit within its Asset Visibility and Automation business alongside printing, data capture and machine vision, so that broader business is not a pure measure of competition with Impinj.
Impinj depends on TSMC, which manufactures wafers from customers’ chip designs, for the chips used in item tags and RFID readers. Impinj buys those wafers by purchase order without a long-term supply agreement; wafer shortages constrained its ability to meet demand in 2021 and 2022, making wafer availability the supply issue to watch.

NXP’s report will show how demand for chips competing with Impinj’s endpoint ICs is faring, while its license payments are a separate source of Impinj revenue.
Separate NXP’s chip-demand signals from its payments under the license agreement. Stronger chip demand would suggest a healthier market in which Impinj sells endpoint ICs, but would not prove Impinj gained sales; continued license payments support a distinct revenue stream. Weak chip demand or reduced payments would point to pressure on the corresponding path. The conclusion is whether these two links to NXP support or weaken Impinj’s business.
Impinj, Inc. earningsThis company
Impinj sells chips embedded in tagged items, so this report will show whether repeat orders from those items can support revenue and gross margin.
Read endpoint-IC revenue beside systems revenue and gross margin. Endpoint-IC revenue rising with stable or higher margin would mean repeat demand is growing without weakening the product mix; falling chip revenue or lower margin would point to softer item demand or less profitable sales. The conclusion is whether Impinj is turning item adoption into durable, profitable chip orders.

Zebra’s report offers a broad read on spending around readers that compete with Impinj’s, though RFID is only part of Zebra’s Asset Visibility and Automation business.
Read Zebra’s Asset Visibility and Automation results as a broad signal, not a direct measure of RFID reader sales: the business also includes printing, data capture and machine vision. Growth would be consistent with stronger spending in the wider systems market that includes Impinj’s readers; weakness could reflect those other products instead. The conclusion is suggestive, not proof, of demand for Impinj’s reader systems.
Retail Sales MoM (Oct)
Retail sales track what consumers spend at stores; stronger or weaker demand can influence retailers’ investment in item-level connectivity and partners’ orders for Impinj’s repeat-purchase endpoint ICs.
Stronger retail sales suggest firmer consumer spending that may support retailers’ investment in item-level connectivity and partner orders for Impinj endpoint ICs; weaker sales point to less support. The filing does not quantify retail’s revenue share.
