PagSeguro Digital Ltd. helps mainly Brazilian micro-merchants and small and medium-sized businesses collect payments in stores and online. Merchants use card machines such as Moderninha and Minizinha, online checkout or payment links. The company processes payments and deducts a fee from the money it passes to the merchant. PagBank also provides digital accounts and credit to individuals and businesses.
Merchants whose customers pay in credit-card installments often need cash before those installments arrive. PagSeguro pays them early, withholding a discount as its compensation. Payment processing and these early-payment arrangements generate most of its revenue and income; selling card machines also introduces merchants to its broader services.
The business depends on Brazilian spending, the mix of payment methods and access to funding. Credit-card payments generally earn higher fees than debit cards or Pix. To pay merchants early, PagSeguro chiefly accelerates collection of money owed by card issuers and acquirers, so Brazilian interest rates affect its financing costs. It also relies on card networks and banks to complete transactions. Its regulated businesses must meet capital requirements and comply with restrictions on lending and charges.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
PagSeguro’s results hinge on Brazilian merchant spending, the cost of advancing merchants’ receivables and competition to handle their payments—including Cielo, which is absent from this list.
StoneCo competes with PagSeguro for Brazilian micro-merchants and SMEs that need to accept payments, manage bank accounts and borrow. Watch StoneCo’s Ton and Stone offerings for signs of competition among the small merchants that form PagSeguro’s core customer base.
PicS N.V.’s PicPay competes with PagSeguro on both sides of Brazilian payments: consumer digital accounts and services that help SMEs accept payments and use banking products. Watch PicPay’s SME business rather than just its consumer wallet, which is its most mature offering.
Nu Holdings competes with PagSeguro’s PagBank for Brazilian individuals and small businesses using app-based accounts, payments, cards, deposits and loans. Its Brazilian customer activity and adoption of these services are more relevant to PagBank than its expansion in Mexico or Colombia.
Mercado Libre competes with PagSeguro through Mercado Pago, which serves Brazilian merchants taking payments and consumers using financial services. Watch Mercado Pago’s Brazilian business separately from Mercado Libre’s substantial commerce business, which also earns marketplace, shipping and merchandise-sales revenue.
Itaú Unibanco competes with PagSeguro through Redecard, which handles payments for Brazilian merchants, and with PagBank in retail banking. Redecard’s share of merchant-payment volume is the clearest measure of this rivalry: it led Brazil with 22.7% for the twelve months ended December 31, 2025, according to ABECS.
Inter & Co. competes with PagSeguro’s PagBank for Brazilian customers using free digital bank accounts and financial services funded by deposits. Watch Inter’s deposit mix and funding cost: it attributes its funding-cost advantage to deposits, while PagSeguro reported higher deposit expenses as a driver of rising financial costs in 2025.
PagSeguro relies on Visa’s payment network for PagBank Visa cards, and greater card-payment volume benefits both Visa’s network and PagSeguro’s fee-based merchant payment services. Watch Visa’s network-fee changes: PagSeguro pays card-network costs and may not be able to pass all increases on to merchants.
PagSeguro relies on Mastercard’s network for PagBank debit and prepaid cards; Mastercard routes and settles payments between banks, while PagSeguro handles merchant payments for fees, so both depend on card-payment activity. Watch Mastercard’s debit and prepaid payment volume for activity in the card types PagBank offers, rather than treating Mastercard as a lender.
VISA Inc. earningsV
Visa's report will show how its network fees are changing; PagSeguro relies on Visa to process PagBank card transactions, so higher fees could squeeze its merchant-payment margins.
Watch Visa's reported network-fee changes alongside whether PagSeguro can adjust merchant rates. Stable fees, or increases it can pass through, would keep PagSeguro's card costs manageable; fees rising faster than merchant rates would leave less margin on each card payment.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s benchmark rate tracks the cost of borrowing in the US; it can influence Brazilian rates indirectly, which affect what PagSeguro pays to fund merchant advances and what merchants are willing to pay for early payment.

If it comes in above expectations
If rates across the economy rise, PagSeguro may pay more on new or repricing funding for merchant advances, while merchants may be less willing to accept the discount for early payment.
If it comes in below expectations
If rates across the economy fall, PagSeguro may pay less on new or repricing funding for merchant advances, while merchants may be more willing to accept the discount for early payment.
StoneCo Ltd. earningsSTNE
StoneCo Ltd.'s report will show how Ton and Stone are faring with Brazilian small merchants, the core customer base PagSeguro also competes for in payment acceptance and financial services.
Look at StoneCo Ltd.'s merchant business, especially Ton and Stone's offerings for smaller merchants. Strong activity would show that demand for payment and financial services remains alive, but also that PagSeguro faces a capable rival. Weak activity could mean demand is cooling or competitive pressure is easing; merchant and transaction trends help distinguish the two.
PagSeguro Digital Ltd. earningsThis company
PagSeguro earns from merchant payment fees and income on early payouts of card installments; this report will show whether transaction growth can outpace the costs of serving merchants and funding those payouts.
Read transaction and other service revenue alongside financial income, then compare both with service costs and financial costs. If payment activity and early-payout income grow while those costs stay contained, PagSeguro is turning a larger merchant business into more profit. If income weakens or costs rise faster, growth is not improving the business's return.
