Oil-Dri Corporation of America mines clay and processes it into products such as cat litter, which absorbs liquids and controls odors. Cat litter supplies more than half of its revenue. Retailers and online stores buy its Cat’s Pride and Jonny Cat products, as well as litter made for their own labels. It also manufactures certain Fresh Step products for A&M Products Manufacturing Company, a Clorox subsidiary, under long-term supply agreements. Its crystal cat litter uses silica gel rather than clay.
The other major business sells materials that remove contaminants from oils. Edible-oil processors and fuel refiners buy products such as Pure-Flo and Perform bleaching clays to purify oils, while Metal-X and Metal-Z serve renewable-diesel and sustainable-aviation-fuel producers. Smaller businesses sell spill-cleanup absorbents and Amlan animal health and nutrition products.
Walmart is a major customer, so its purchasing decisions materially affect sales. Most customer purchases come through individual orders rather than fixed-term contracts. Production also depends on the supply and quality of clay from Oil-Dri’s owned or leased mines. Mining and environmental permits govern access to those reserves and can restrict extraction or expansion.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Beyond cat-litter demand and Walmart’s purchases, Oil-Dri’s results also hinge on demand for edible-oil and renewable-diesel purification, an exposure this list does not cover.
Clorox both competes with Oil-Dri for cat-litter sales and, through its subsidiary, pays Oil-Dri to manufacture certain Fresh Step products under long-term supply agreements. Watch Fresh Step demand: Oil-Dri adjusts production of those products to market demand.
Oil-Dri depends heavily on Walmart’s cat-litter and accessory purchases: Walmart and its affiliates accounted for approximately 18% of Oil-Dri’s total net sales in fiscal 2026. Watch those purchases rather than Walmart’s overall retail sales for the direct effect on Oil-Dri.
Brady Corporation competes for Oil-Dri’s industrial cleanup buyers: its SPC products absorb and contain spills, competing with Oil-Dri’s pads, rolls, socks, booms and spill kits.
Clorox Company earningsCLX
Clorox's report offers clues about cat-litter demand, which matters to Oil-Dri because a Clorox subsidiary contracts it to make some Fresh Step products.
Look for Clorox's disclosures on cat-litter sales or demand; a separate Fresh Step disclosure would speak more directly to this manufacturing relationship. Strong demand would support production of those products, while weaker demand would mean less market support for it. If Clorox does not break out Fresh Step, its overall litter results are only a clue, not proof of Oil-Dri's orders.
Brady Corporation earningsBRC
Brady Corporation's report can show demand for industrial spill-absorbent and containment products, where its SPC line competes with Oil-Dri.
Watch for Brady's disclosures on demand for SPC or industrial spill-control products. Strong demand would show that industrial buyers are still purchasing this category, leaving Oil-Dri's pads, rolls, socks, booms and spill kits to compete in an active market; weaker demand would point to a softer market, not prove that Oil-Dri gained share.
Walmart Inc. earningsWMT
Walmart's report can offer clues about its cat-litter and accessory purchases; Walmart and its affiliates accounted for about 18% of Oil-Dri's fiscal 2026 sales.
Look for Walmart's disclosures or comments on pet products, cat-litter sales or replenishment, not just its overall retail sales. Stronger category demand or replenishment would support Oil-Dri's sales through this major customer; weaker signals would raise the risk of lower purchases and put its customer concentration in focus. If Walmart does not break out cat litter, its overall results cannot establish a change in Oil-Dri's orders.
Oil-Dri Corporation of America earningsThis company
Oil-Dri's report will show whether cat litter and business-to-business products can lift sales while keeping gross margin—the share of sales left after direct product costs—from eroding.
Read sales and operating income for both product groups alongside total sales and gross margin. Sales growth with a steadier margin would show that product mix or price recovery is supporting growth; sales growth with a further margin decline would show that costs or customer price pressure are consuming more of each sales dollar.
