NPK International Inc. supplies recyclable DURA-BASE mats that create temporary access routes and working surfaces for infrastructure projects. Customers in the United States and United Kingdom pay to rent the mats and have NPK transport, install and remove them, with related site construction and restoration services. This rental-and-service business brings in most of its revenue. NPK also sells manufactured mats worldwide, mainly to electric utilities and companies supporting power transmission projects.
The business depends heavily on power transmission work, which supplies most rental-and-service revenue as well as the main market for mat sales. A small group of large customers supplies much of total revenue, with one utility customer particularly important. Customer project schedules and orders drive demand, while many contracts allow cancellation or reductions on short notice without penalty. To serve those projects, NPK must keep its rental mats maintained and available where customers need them.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
NPK's results hinge on utility transmission investment and composite mats replacing timber; also watch Exchange Income Corporation's Spartan Mat, a direct rival missing from this list.
United Rentals is NPK's largest rental rival for temporary worksite access, renting mainly wood mats while NPK rents composite mats and provides site services to construction and utility customers. Watch its wood-mat rental business for competitive pressure on NPK's rental and services, which generated 66% of NPK's revenue in 2025.
Myers Industries' Signature Systems competes for worksite-access mat purchases with NPK's DURA-BASE, offering composite mats rather than the wood mats NPK is trying to replace. Watch Signature Systems' composite-mat sales for competition within the product category that drove NPK's product sales growth of 30% in 2025.
Wesco and NPK share demand from utility transmission investment: Wesco sells electrical equipment to utilities, while NPK supplies access mats and site services for the transmission construction projects that need that equipment. Watch Wesco's utility equipment business for a read on the project demand supporting NPK.
United Rentals, Inc. earningsURI
United Rentals' report will show how demand for wood-mat rentals and competition affect NPK International's bids for temporary worksite-access projects.
Read United Rentals' wood-mat rental business for demand, and for signs that bidders are competing harder. Stronger demand without fiercer competition would point to more temporary-access work for NPK International to pursue; weakness or tougher competition would mean fewer projects, or more difficulty winning them at acceptable prices.

NPK International's report will show whether more rental projects are still turning into profit after changes in pricing and service costs.
Read rental revenue alongside the rental-and-service gross margin, the share left after direct costs. Revenue growth with a steady or rising margin means added projects are still paying off after those costs; growth with a falling margin means pricing or costs are eating into the added business.
Myers Industries, Inc. earningsMYE
Myers Industries' report will show whether Signature Systems' composite-mat sales reflect broader category demand or competition for NPK International's orders.
Read Signature Systems' composite-mat sales. Growth would show buyers are purchasing more in the category, but would not establish which supplier wins the orders; a slowdown would point to weaker category demand for NPK International's manufactured mats too.
Wesco International Inc. earningsWCC
Wesco's report will show whether utility purchases of transmission equipment support the project demand behind NPK International's rental and service work.
Read Wesco's electrical-equipment business serving utilities. Stronger demand would point to more active transmission projects, supporting NPK International's mat rentals and site services for that work; weaker demand would mean less support from this source, but Wesco's results alone cannot show how many projects NPK won.
