Mistras Group helps industrial operators find defects and track the condition of equipment, pipelines and structures. Most revenue comes from technicians inspecting and maintaining assets at customer sites, with customers generally paying for the time and materials used. Many customers outsource ongoing inspection and maintenance management to Mistras, so much of its work recurs even though most service assignments are short-term.
Aerospace and defense customers are largely served through its laboratories, which test materials and components. Mistras also sells monitoring equipment and software, and earns software subscription and analytics fees. Its PCMS and New Century Software help customers manage equipment and pipeline inspection data.
Oil and gas customers supply most revenue, and North America accounts for most of the business. No single customer dominates revenue, but a group of large, mainly oil and gas customers supplies a substantial share. Demand depends on customers’ industrial activity and inspection and maintenance spending, with refinery shutdown schedules influencing when work occurs. Delivering services also requires certified technical staff. Radiography work uses radioactive materials and requires regulatory licenses in the United States and Canada; losing those licenses can restrict or prevent that work.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Mistras Group Inc. depends mainly on oil-and-gas inspection and turnaround spending, but key inspection rivals SGS Group, Team’s IHT segment and APPLUS RTD are absent from this list.
TIC Solutions, Inc competes with Mistras for industrial and infrastructure customers paying for checks that leave assets intact—nondestructive testing—as well as laboratory testing and inspection services. Watch TIC’s recurring inspection and maintenance work, primarily for North American private- and public-sector customers, for signs of demand in markets Mistras also serves.
Boeing’s commercial aircraft production is relevant to demand for Mistras’s aerospace laboratory testing: Boeing sells jets mainly to airlines worldwide and approves Mistras laboratories, though that approval does not establish direct purchases. Watch Boeing’s aircraft production activity for clues to testing demand in aerospace and defense, which accounted for approximately 13% of Mistras’s 2025 revenue.
EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (Oct/16)
For Mistras, weekly US crude oil and gasoline stocks show whether energy supplies are tightening or building, which can move oil and gas customers’ spending on its inspections, maintenance and projects.
Read inventory changes as a possible signal of energy-market conditions, not a direct measure of Mistras’s work: rising stocks may pressure oil and fuel prices and customer spending, while falling stocks may support prices and spending, depending on customer response.
Boeing Company earningsBA
Boeing’s report will show how commercial aircraft production is changing, offering a clue to demand for Mistras’s aerospace laboratory testing.
Watch Boeing’s reported commercial aircraft production activity, not jet sales as a proxy for Mistras orders. More production means more components may need testing, which could support demand for Mistras’s aerospace laboratory work; slower production means less potential testing work. Aerospace and defense customers accounted for about 13% of Mistras revenue in 2025, but Boeing’s approval of Mistras laboratories does not establish that Boeing buys directly from Mistras. The takeaway is whether aircraft production is a tailwind or a headwind for this part of Mistras’s business.
Mistras Group Inc. earningsThis company
Mistras earns most of its revenue from field inspection and maintenance, and this report will show whether customer work and service costs support revenue and gross margin.
Read Field Services revenue alongside gross margin, the share of revenue left after direct service costs. Steady or rising Field Services revenue with a stable or higher margin would show that customer work is holding up while mix or cost control preserves profitability. Falling revenue or a lower margin would point to weaker demand or service costs absorbing the improvement. The conclusion is whether Mistras’s core field business can sustain both workload and profitability.
Non Farm Payrolls (Oct)
The monthly jobs report counts jobs added or lost and signals hiring conditions; for Mistras, competition for scarce certified technicians, engineers and scientists can raise labor costs that may not be recoverable in customer prices.
Read payroll growth as a signal of hiring conditions, not a count of Mistras’s own staff: stronger job growth may intensify competition for its scarce certified workers and raise costs, while weaker growth may ease that pressure; the effect depends on labor availability and costs.
