Company

Company overview

MasterBeef Group serves diners through its Master Beef Taiwanese hotpot restaurants and Anping Grill Taiwanese barbecue restaurants in Hong Kong. Master Beef brings in most of the group's revenue. Customers choose buffet set menus based on beef quality and food variety, then pay a fixed price to eat within a set time. Its customers are mainly members of the public, with no reliance on a single customer.

A central kitchen handles part of ingredient purchasing and preparation before supplying the restaurants. The business depends on attracting diners to its leased locations and keeping food, staff and rent costs within what menu prices can cover. Its outlets are in busy shopping malls and commercial buildings, making nearby foot traffic important to sales.

The restaurants need operating licenses and must meet food-safety requirements. Employees hold each outlet's liquor license; if a license holder leaves without agreeing to a transfer, that restaurant may have to stop selling alcohol temporarily.

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.

MasterBeef’s results hinge on Hong Kong dining traffic, residents’ northbound spending and competition from local chains such as Cou Cou, LH Group and Taste Gourmet, none of which appears in this list.

  • Happy City Holdings Limited competes directly with MasterBeef for Hong Kong diners paying for time-limited, all-you-can-eat hotpot: its Japanese- and Thai-style offerings rival MasterBeef’s Taiwanese hotpot. Watch its Thai Pot and Gyu! Gyu! Shabu Shabu restaurant business for signs of competition for those diners.
