Company overview

Kyntra Bio’s commercial business centers on roxadustat, a medicine for anemia caused by chronic kidney disease. Astellas markets it in Europe and Japan and pays Kyntra Bio for active pharmaceutical ingredient or bulk drug product. These supplies account for most revenue, with Europe contributing the larger share; Astellas is currently its sole revenue-generating customer. The agreements also provide payments linked to Astellas’ drug sales, so the business depends heavily on that partner’s commercial performance. Astellas has final control over development decisions in its territories.

Kyntra Bio sold its China operations and roxadustat rights there to AstraZeneca and no longer receives payments under the China collaboration. It retains rights in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but roxadustat is not approved for sale in those countries.

Its cancer development program pairs FG-3246, an antibody that carries a cancer-killing drug to targeted cells, with FG-3180, a PET imaging agent being studied to help identify patients who may respond. FG-3246 is in clinical development for prostate cancer that has spread and resists hormone-lowering treatment. Kyntra Bio funds and controls development under an exclusive license from Fortis Therapeutics, but that license expires if it does not exercise its option to acquire Fortis.

Kyntra Bio relies on Astellas for current revenue, while its FG-3246 prostate-cancer program depends on clinical progress and its Fortis license.

  • Geron already sells RYTELO for lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) anemia, the market Kyntra Bio plans to enter with roxadustat. Watch RYTELO sales for a view of the existing market among adults with lower-risk MDS whose anemia requires transfusions.

  • Keros’ elritercept and Kyntra Bio’s planned roxadustat trial target the same lower-risk MDS anemia market. Takeda pays Keros for rights to develop and sell elritercept; progress in its Phase 3 RENEW trial shows how far this competing program has advanced.

  • AstraZeneca bought Kyntra Bio’s China roxadustat business, but still takes a share of proceeds from certain territories it returned to Kyntra Bio. If Kyntra Bio sells roxadustat in those territories, AstraZeneca receives tiered mid-single-digit royalties; if Kyntra Bio licenses or sells those rights, AstraZeneca receives 35% of that revenue.

  • Bristol Myers Squibb’s Reblozyl already treats lower-risk MDS anemia, putting an established medicine in the market Kyntra Bio intends to address with roxadustat.

  • Disc Medicine is developing anemia treatments that compete for treatment opportunities with Kyntra Bio’s roxadustat programs. It had no product-sales revenue through December 31, 2025, so watch its anemia trial progress rather than drug sales.
