Company

Company overview

Kewaunee Scientific Corp supplies the furniture and equipment that research laboratories, schools, healthcare institutions and manufacturers need to fit out their facilities. Its core business is making custom laboratory furnishings, such as cabinets, work surfaces and fume hoods that remove fumes from work areas. Customers buy through purchase orders and contracts, either directly or through dealers, a national distributor and overseas subsidiaries.

Most revenue comes from its Lab Products Group, which includes Nu Aire, an acquired business making biological safety cabinets, incubators and ultralow freezers. Its smaller International business also handles laboratory design, engineering, construction and project management, taking projects from planning through testing and commissioning.

A substantial share of sales goes through two domestic dealers and the national stocking distributor. Demand depends on planned laboratory and healthcare construction and the progress of existing projects. Building delays can push back deliveries, while firm quoted prices leave Kewaunee exposed to labor and material cost increases before delivery. Project payments also take time to collect, with some money withheld until completion, so the company needs working capital while it fulfills orders.
