Company

Company overview

JBT Marel Corporation builds individual machines and integrated production lines for food and beverage processors. Its Protein Solutions business handles the early stages of processing poultry, pork, fish and beef; Prepared Food and Beverage Solutions handles preparation, preservation and packaging, including turning ingredients into ready-to-eat meals and ready-to-drink beverages. Customers pay for equipment, installation and supporting software.

Once equipment is installed, customers also buy replacement parts, maintenance, repairs and upgrades. This aftermarket business supplies a substantial share of revenue, so the relationship extends beyond the original equipment sale. New sales depend on processors’ willingness and ability to invest, while continuing service revenue depends on the installed equipment base and timely support for customers handling perishable food. No single customer dominates revenue.

The company continues to provide services and spare parts in Russia under existing agreements and to finalize outstanding projects, within the limits of U.S. and EU sanctions.

JBT Marel’s results hinge on food processors’ equipment investment and demand for servicing installed equipment, but this list omits important competitors to watch: GEA Group, Baader and Duravant.

  • Middleby Corp competes with JBT Marel to sell cooking, processing and packaging equipment and integrated production lines to protein and prepared-food producers, so both depend on those customers’ spending on automation and production capacity. Watch Middleby’s Food Processing equipment business, rather than its commercial-kitchen business, for clues to demand facing JBT Marel.
