Company

Company overview

Immuron Limited’s main commercial product is Travelan, which people buy for protection against digestive illness. It generates most of the company’s sales, with Australia its largest market. Australian pharmacies sell it over the counter to reduce the risk of travelers’ diarrhea; Canada licenses it as a natural health product for that purpose, while the United States permits its sale as a dietary supplement for digestive-tract protection. Sales depend heavily on a small customer base: one unnamed customer accounts for more than half of revenue.

The company’s technology starts with dairy cows immunized against selected targets. It collects their antibody-rich colostrum—the milk produced just after calving—and processes it into powder for oral products. Travelan contains antibodies directed against strains of E. coli associated with travelers’ diarrhea.

Alongside its commercial products, Immuron is developing prescription treatments using this technology, including IMM-124E and IMM-529. Its prescription candidates are still in early clinical or preclinical development, none is approved for sale, and prescription-product sales have never generated revenue. They cannot be marketed without regulatory approval. Development also depends on funding, third-party trial providers and manufacturing supply; each of the two lead candidates relies on a single manufacturer.

Immuron’s results hinge chiefly on Travelan demand in Australian pharmacies and U.S. channels, while Lumen Bioscience competes with its pipeline in travelers’ diarrhea and C. difficile treatments.

  • Acurx Pharmaceuticals, Inc.’s antibiotic candidate ibezapolstat for C. difficile infections competes with Immuron’s gastrointestinal antibody-development programs, rather than its current Travelan sales. Watch ibezapolstat’s progress toward approval: a competing treatment approved first could hurt Immuron’s prospects for developing and selling its own treatment.
