Company

Company overview

Ibotta helps consumer goods brands encourage purchases, mainly through cash-back offers on groceries and other everyday products. Brands set the eligible products, reward amounts and campaign budgets. Through the Ibotta Performance Network (IPN), Ibotta verifies qualifying purchases and bills brands for the redeemed rewards plus an agreed fee for each redemption. Those fees generate most of its revenue.

Shoppers find offers through Ibotta’s own app and other consumer-facing services, or through partners such as Walmart, Instacart and DoorDash. Third-party partners account for most revenue. Ibotta supplies the offers and technology behind partners’ rewards programs, and is Walmart U.S.’s exclusive provider of digital item-level rebate offer content.

The business depends on brands continuing to fund offers and partners making those offers visible and easy to use: Ibotta earns redemption fees only when shoppers buy qualifying products. Retailer and partner purchase data lets it verify purchases, personalize offers and measure campaigns. Privacy laws and consumer consent requirements limit how it can collect and use that data.

Ibotta’s results hinge on consumer packaged goods brands’ promotional budgets and shoppers redeeming offers through its own properties and retailer publishers, not just the broader advertising cycle.

  • Instacart competes for brands’ grocery marketing budgets but also brings Ibotta paid redemptions by distributing its offers through its grocery marketplace. Watch Instacart’s grocery advertising business for signals about brand spending; its launch alongside DoorDash helped drive Ibotta’s third-party publisher redemption revenue growth in 2025.

  • Fluent competes with Ibotta for consumer brands’ spending on marketing tied to customer actions: brands pay Fluent for clicks, leads or other actions, while Ibotta earns fees when shoppers redeem promotions. Fluent’s customer-acquisition campaigns on commerce partners’ sites and its own properties are the business to watch for competition over those budgets.
