Hyster-Yale, Inc. supplies Hyster and Yale lift trucks to businesses that need to move and handle goods, including retailers, manufacturers, food and beverage companies and logistics operators. New truck sales generate most of its revenue; replacement parts and services provide a smaller continuing revenue stream. Its Bolzoni business also sells attachments for handling specialized loads and components for lift-truck manufacturers.
Independent dealers buy and resell most of the trucks and provide local parts, maintenance and repairs. Hyster-Yale also sells directly to large customers whose operations span several dealer territories, with dealers supporting delivery and local service. The customer base is diverse, with no single customer dominating revenue, but the United States supplies most of its sales.
The business depends on customers’ willingness to invest in equipment and on dealers’ ability to sell and support it. Customers tend to postpone purchases when economic activity weakens. Production also depends on a limited number of suppliers for some critical components, and shortages have constrained output. Its trucks must meet applicable off-road emissions requirements, while export controls and sanctions prohibit some international transactions.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Sumitomo Heavy Industries, absent from this list, shares control of Hyster-Yale's Sumitomo NACCO manufacturing venture.
Alta Equipment Group Inc. buys Hyster-Yale lift trucks and parts to resell to equipment users, tying both companies to customers' spending on lift trucks and their upkeep. Watch Alta's material-handling equipment sales and parts and maintenance revenue for signs of demand for Hyster-Yale's trucks and support.
Durable Goods Orders MoM (Sep)
Durable goods orders track purchases of long-lasting equipment, so they indicate whether Hyster-Yale’s customers are more likely to buy its lift trucks and related products, supporting or reducing sales.
Expected0.2%Last release-0.1%
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 0.2% estimate, it is above the previous -0.1%. More orders than expected would signal stronger business investment, which could help Hyster-Yale’s industrial and logistics customers proceed with truck purchases instead of delaying or canceling them, supporting truck sales and production.
If it comes in below expectations
Fewer orders than expected would signal weaker business investment, making Hyster-Yale’s customers more likely to delay or cancel lift-truck purchases, which could reduce truck sales and production.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s policy rate is the benchmark that influences borrowing costs, so changes can affect the interest Hyster-Yale pays on its floating-rate borrowing and the money left after debt costs.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
A higher-than-expected policy rate could raise interest costs on Hyster-Yale’s floating-rate revolving borrowing as it reprices, leaving less cash after debt service; the effect depends on how much borrowing is outstanding and reprices.
If it comes in below expectations
A lower-than-expected policy rate could reduce interest costs on Hyster-Yale’s floating-rate revolving borrowing as it reprices, leaving more cash after debt service; the effect depends on how much borrowing is outstanding and reprices.
Hyster-Yale, Inc. earningsThis company
Hyster-Yale’s report will show whether lift-truck sales and production costs are bringing the manufacturer back to operating profit.
Read lift-truck sales alongside operating profit. Rising sales with a return to operating profit would show that trucks sold through dealers and directly to major customers are covering manufacturing and delivery costs. Weaker sales with continued operating losses would show that delayed customer purchases or costs such as tariffs still outweigh revenue.
Alta Equipment Group Inc. earningsALTG
Alta Equipment Group’s report will show whether equipment users are still buying lift trucks and paying for upkeep, as those customers also buy trucks and parts from Hyster-Yale.
Read Alta Equipment’s material-handling equipment sales alongside its parts and maintenance revenue. Steady equipment sales and support revenue would suggest customers are both adding equipment and maintaining what they use, supporting demand for Hyster-Yale trucks and parts. Weakness in both would suggest customers are pulling back on purchases and upkeep, putting pressure on Hyster-Yale’s related sales.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
Industrial production and capacity use track how much factories, mines and utilities are producing and using their facilities, indicating whether Hyster-Yale’s industrial and logistics customers may buy its lift trucks and related products, affecting sales.
Stronger production and capacity use would point to more activity in industries Hyster-Yale serves and a greater likelihood that industrial and logistics customers buy lift trucks; weaker readings would point to less activity and more risk of postponed orders.
