Ferroglobe PLC uses electricity-intensive furnaces to turn mineral inputs such as quartz and manganese ore into materials sold to steelmakers, aluminum producers and manufacturers of silicones and polysilicon. Silicon metal, manganese-based alloys and ferrosilicon account for most sales. It owns mines that supply part of its raw-material needs, alongside purchases from outside suppliers.
Customers pay through annual and quarterly contracts and spot purchases. Many contracts link prices to market benchmarks, so contracted sales still move with commodity markets. Customers are concentrated in the United States and Europe. Dow Silicones Corporation is its largest customer, and a small group of major customers supplies a substantial share of revenue; some contracts do not guarantee minimum purchases.
Earnings depend on industrial customers’ demand and the gap between selling prices and production costs. Reliable electricity is essential and one of its largest costs, while higher raw-material costs cannot always be passed on to buyers. Environmental and safety permits also constrain operations: violations can lead to production restrictions or required plant upgrades.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Ferroglobe’s results hinge on silicon and ferroalloy prices and industrial demand; rival Elkem and largest customer Dow Silicones, both absent here, offer more direct business signals than these steel companies.
Cleveland-Cliffs’ steel production and automotive demand help drive consumption of the manganese and silicon alloys Ferroglobe sells to steelmakers. Watch demand for Cleveland-Cliffs’ steel from automotive customers for a read on this part of Ferroglobe’s business.
Steel Dynamics sells steel and flat-rolled aluminum into industrial markets that also drive demand for Ferroglobe’s steelmaking alloys and silicon metal. Its aluminum business is worth watching alongside steel: Ferroglobe cited weaker automotive demand for aluminum in its 2025 North American silicon-metal decline.
Nucor sells steel and steel products into the same production cycle that drives steelmakers’ demand for Ferroglobe’s manganese and silicon alloys. Its steel-mill business is the clearest line to watch, accounting for 62% of Nucor’s sales to external customers in 2025.
Commercial Metals sells construction steel in the United States and Europe, sharing Ferroglobe’s exposure to building demand that supports sales of steelmaking alloys. Watch its rebar business for construction demand; Ferroglobe cited weak European construction steel demand as a pressure on silicon alloys in 2025.
Metallus’ production of steel for automotive and industrial customers follows a cycle that also drives demand for Ferroglobe’s steelmaking ferroalloys. Watch demand for its custom steel bars and mechanical tubes in those markets rather than treating its whole business as a match for Ferroglobe.
Ternium’s steel mills respond to manufacturing demand that also drives consumption of Ferroglobe’s manganese and silicon alloys. Watch sales of its finished and semi-finished steel to steel processors and end users for a demand signal, rather than its iron-ore sales.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Ferroglobe’s North American credit facility carries interest at SOFR, a benchmark borrowing rate, plus a spread, so higher rates can raise what it pays to borrow and reduce profit.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can raise interest costs on the facility’s outstanding balance and on new borrowing, leaving less profit for Ferroglobe.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can reduce interest costs on the facility’s outstanding balance and on new borrowing, easing pressure on Ferroglobe’s profit.
Ferroglobe PLC earningsThis company
Ferroglobe’s report will show whether firmer silicon-metal prices and shipments are improving results at the materials producer.
Read the average selling price and shipments for silicon metal alongside the operating result. Rising prices and shipments with a narrower loss would show better sales helping to offset production costs; if prices or shipments stay weak and the loss does not narrow, pressure on the silicon-metal business remains.
Commercial Metals Company earningsCMC
Commercial Metals’ report will show demand for construction rebar in the United States and Europe, a signal for demand for the alloys Ferroglobe sells to steelmakers.
Watch demand in Commercial Metals’ rebar business. Steady or stronger demand would support steel production for construction and the need for Ferroglobe’s steelmaking alloys; weaker demand would mean less support for alloy sales from this end market.
