Company overview

Genenta Science S.p.A. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company whose lead candidate, Temferon, targets glioblastoma, a brain cancer. The treatment uses a patient’s own blood-forming stem cells, modifies them outside the body and returns them to the patient. It is designed to deliver interferon-alpha into the tumor environment. Genenta has no approved products and has never earned revenue from product sales; investors supplying equity and convertible debt have funded its operations.

Temferon remains in early development. Genenta is not advancing its glioblastoma study to the next stage or enrolling more patients, and it has discontinued its kidney-cancer program. Further development depends on additional funding or a strategic partner, which it is seeking. Its underlying technology comes from a license with San Raffaele Hospital limited to specified uses, and any product sales would require regulatory approval.

Alongside biotechnology, Genenta plans to acquire controlling stakes in profitable private businesses in sectors covered by Italy’s Golden Power legislation, including defense and aerospace. It has acquired a minority stake in A.T.C. S.r.l., an Italian maker of tactical rifles and sporting firearms, with an opportunity to take control subject to business milestones and retention of required licenses. Earnings from acquired businesses are a planned second path, not an established replacement for its biotechnology business.

Related companies

With further Temferon enrollment halted, Genenta Science S.p.A.'s outlook depends more on its planned acquisitions of profitable Italian strategic-sector businesses, capital allocation and its manufacturing dispute with AGC Biologics than on broadly related biotechnology companies.
