Company

Company overview

Electra Therapeutics is developing medicines designed to remove immune cells that drive disease. Its antibodies bind to receptors on these cells called signal regulatory proteins, or SIRPs. Its main focus is ipsoprubart for secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH), which is in a late-stage clinical trial, and T/NK-cell cancers. It is also testing ELA822 for chronic immune and inflammatory diseases driven by T cells.

The company has no approved products and has never generated revenue. Investors, rather than drug customers, have funded its research, primarily through preferred-share sales and convertible notes. Its ability to earn product revenue depends heavily on successfully developing and commercializing ipsoprubart and ELA822; neither can be sold before regulatory approval. It still needs substantial additional capital to carry the programs through development and commercialization.

Electra relies on outside organizations to run trials and manufacture its medicines, with only one or a few suppliers for certain materials. The FDA has classified its contracted drug-product manufacturing facility as unacceptably compliant with manufacturing requirements. Although Electra has identified no quality concerns specific to its own material, that unresolved status could delay approval of ipsoprubart.

Electra Therapeutics’ prospects hinge on clinical results, regulatory approval and funding for ipsoprubart and ELA822; references to Amgen and Sanofi concern patent litigation, not demonstrated business ties.
