Company

Company overview

Energys Group Limited helps businesses and public-sector institutions reduce energy use by replacing existing lighting. Most sales are in the United Kingdom, where customers include universities, schools, hospitals and commercial and industrial facilities. The company handles surveys, design, procurement, installation and related maintenance, with retrofit projects bringing in most revenue. It also sells lighting products to electrical distributors and contractors for resale.

Its lighting can incorporate IntelliDim, which adjusts output using motion and light sensors, and IntelliMesh, which connects lights through Bluetooth for individual or group control. Energys develops products in Hong Kong and relies on manufacturers in China to make them to its specifications rather than manufacturing them in the UK.

Customers generally pay through individual projects and purchase orders, not significant long-term contracts guaranteeing recurring revenue. Large retrofit and multi-site rollout projects supply a substantial share of sales, so reliance on particular customers changes from period to period. The business depends on winning further orders and delivering installations to customer requirements. Secured financing agreements also limit additional borrowing, acquisitions and shareholder distributions.

Energys’ results hinge on when UK lighting-retrofit budgets turn into project awards, with Osram, Helvar and Tridonic offering closer lighting-market competition than most companies in this list.

  • Honeywell competes for building customers’ energy-efficiency spending with its systems and controls, while Energys Group Limited supplies LED lighting and controls with design, installation and maintenance. Watch Honeywell’s Building Automation business, particularly its tools for improving building performance, rather than its broader aerospace and industrial operations.
