Company

Company overview

EHang builds aircraft that carry passengers without an onboard pilot and take off and land vertically using electric power. Corporate customers buy its EH216 series aircraft and accompanying software, which generate most of its revenue. It generally starts production after receiving a purchase order, and contracts require customers to pay upfront.

China is its principal market. Most passenger-aircraft sales come from a small group of customers using the aircraft mainly for limited trials at tourism sites, rather than widespread commercial transport. Its largest customer supplies a substantial share of revenue. EHang helps customers prepare flight operations through site and route planning, training and maintenance; it also offers passenger flights through a subsidiary and joint venture in Guangzhou and Hefei. These services remain a much smaller revenue source than aircraft sales.

Commercial use depends on aviation approvals. Although EH216-S has Chinese aircraft and operating certifications, it cannot fly at night or in adverse weather, must stay within ground crews’ sight in segregated, uncontrolled airspace over sparsely populated areas, and cannot take off or land on water. Some framework agreements and preorders do not oblige customers to buy unless specified conditions are met, so expanding sales depends on usable flight permissions and customers turning tentative commitments into purchases.

  • Joby Aviation competes with EHang in electric passenger aircraft and flight services, but plans air taxis in markets including the United States and Dubai while EHang mainly sells aircraft to corporate customers in China. Watch Joby's targeted first passenger flights in 2026: its planned business depends on passengers paying for app-booked rides, unlike EHang's current emphasis on aircraft sales.

  • Archer Aviation competes with EHang to turn electric passenger aircraft into a commercial business, combining planned aircraft sales with air taxi rides sold directly to passengers. Watch whether Midnight aircraft and related services begin generating meaningful revenue: Archer has not yet generated significant revenue from its planned businesses, while EHang already sells aircraft and supports flight operations.

  • Eve Holding, Inc. competes with EHang for operators buying electric passenger aircraft and supporting services, though Eve's aircraft and services remain in development. Watch whether its non-binding customer agreements become firm purchases by flight operators and companies that buy aircraft to lease to them; those commitments would show how much demand is moving beyond expressions of interest.

  • Vertical Aerospace Ltd. competes with EHang for aircraft purchases by operators developing passenger flight services, targeting airlines, helicopter operators and aircraft lessors while EHang mainly sells to corporate clients. Watch its proposed arrangement with Bristow to provide aircraft, pilots, maintenance and insurance: it aims to let customers launch services without assembling those capabilities themselves.

  • Beta Technologies, Inc. and EHang both depend on electric aviation becoming commercially viable, but BETA prioritizes cargo, military and medical uses before passenger deliveries. Its aircraft sales to commercial and military customers offer a view of adoption outside EHang's passenger focus; BETA also sells replacement batteries to operators and charging equipment to electric-aviation customers.
