Company overview

Denison Mines focuses on uranium projects in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin. Its main project is Wheeler River, which it operates and largely owns. The company has approved construction of the Phoenix deposit’s uranium operation, but Phoenix is not yet producing or earning revenue.

Its existing operating revenue comes entirely from processing Cigar Lake ore for the Cigar Lake Joint Venture at McClean Lake. Denison owns a minority stake in that mill, while Orano Canada runs it. This revenue depends on one customer and another company’s operations. Denison received upfront funding from Ecora in exchange for specified future milling receipts, so it must pass those cash proceeds to Ecora rather than retain them. The McClean Lake joint venture has also restarted mining at McClean North, although Denison had not sold its share of that production at the latest disclosed year-end.

Denison separately sells uranium it previously bought to help fund Phoenix construction and arranges supply contracts for future mine production. Completing Phoenix requires substantial spending and further provincial and federal permits, despite having approvals to begin construction. Its provincial development approval also faces a legal challenge over Indigenous consultation. The business therefore depends on bringing Phoenix into production, securing funding and selling uranium on acceptable terms.

Denison’s prospects hinge on uranium prices and Phoenix construction, with Orano Canada the operating partner to watch at the McClean Lake and Midwest joint ventures.

  • NexGen Energy’s Rook I competes with Denison’s Wheeler River to supply nuclear utilities from new Athabasca Basin uranium mines. NexGen’s first sales agreements with major U.S. nuclear utilities price uranium against the market at delivery, with some price floors and ceilings—a useful comparison for Denison’s future supply negotiations.

  • Cameco competes with Denison in uranium sales, but its Cigar Lake mine also supplies ore to Denison’s partly owned McClean Lake mill, which earns fees for processing it for the Cigar Lake joint venture. Watch Cigar Lake ore volumes: the mill processed 19.1 million pounds of U3O8 for that customer in 2025, up from 16.9 million in 2024.

  • Uranium Energy and Denison both develop uranium mines and sell physical uranium, so uranium prices and utility contracts matter to both. As of July 31, 2026, Uranium Energy had no uranium purchase or sale agreements and expected future sales to use spot-linked pricing, making its sales terms worth comparing with Denison’s plans to fund Phoenix through inventory sales and secure future mine contracts.

  • IsoEnergy offers a comparison for Denison’s Wheeler River development because it also explores and develops Saskatchewan uranium properties in the Athabasca Basin. It had no marketable products at the time of its annual information filing, so progress at Larocque East—not sales revenue—is the relevant comparison.

  • Energy Fuels overlaps with Denison in selling uranium concentrates for nuclear fuel and processing uranium-bearing material for paying customers. Its uranium sales and third-party processing revenue are the useful comparison with Denison’s uranium activities; its rare-earth and mineral-sands businesses make total company results less directly comparable.

  • enCore Energy supplies uranium from Texas under contracts, competing in the market where Denison sells inventory and seeks buyers for future mine production. Watch enCore’s additions of multi-year contracts combining market-linked pricing with downside protection as South Texas extraction grows—a comparison for how Denison could secure future sales income.

  • Ur-Energy competes for utility uranium purchases in the market Denison already serves and plans to expand into with future mine production. Its Lost Creek operation produces uranium concentrate in Wyoming; progress toward production at Shirley Basin is the concrete supply development to watch alongside Denison’s Phoenix project.

  • Uranium Royalty and Denison both hold physical uranium, but Uranium Royalty also receives revenue or minerals from mines through royalty interests without operating them, while Denison develops and operates mines. Its physical uranium sales offer a price-sensitive comparison for Denison’s inventory sales, without the same direct mine-construction and operating costs.
