Company

Company overview

DiaMedica Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on DM199, also called rinvecalinase alfa. It is testing the drug for acute ischemic stroke and for preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, pregnancy complications affecting mothers and babies. Its stroke study is called ReMEDy2.

No candidate has completed clinical development or received approval for commercial sale, and the company has no product-sales revenue. Investors buying newly issued shares have supplied most of its operating funding. Its intended business is to sell approved medicines or license its candidates to other drug companies for payments tied to development and sales. It expects to need commercialization partners unless it builds its own sales capabilities.

The business depends almost entirely on DM199 demonstrating sufficient safety and efficacy to obtain regulatory approval, and on raising more capital to complete development. DiaMedica contracts with Catalent to manufacture DM199 and licenses its production technology. It has no backup supply arrangements, making outside manufacturing another central dependency.
