Company

Company overview

CapsoVision helps gastroenterologists examine the small bowel using a capsule that patients swallow. CapsoCam Plus captures panoramic video and stores it inside the capsule, rather than transmitting it to a patient-worn recorder. Patients must retrieve the capsule after it passes. With CapsoCloud, they return it to a company facility for video processing, and clinicians review the video remotely; CapsoView lets providers download and review the data locally.

All current revenue comes from the CapsoCam Plus small-bowel business, mainly capsule sales. Most sales are in the U.S., where CapsoVision primarily sells directly to clinics and hospitals. Cloud video delivery and physician video-reading services provide a smaller revenue stream. CapsoVision invoices providers, not insurers; providers receive reimbursement that includes the capsule cost, so demand depends partly on whether that reimbursement adequately covers the examination.

Outside the U.S., sales mainly go through distributors. Aureliance, its authorized EU and EEA agent and importer, supplies a significant share of its EU business. Production also depends on single-source components: lens modules from Largan, image sensors from Toshiba, and custom chips from Moai Electronics/Speedbridge. Foreign data-privacy and access rules mean providers outside the U.S. primarily use CapsoView rather than CapsoCloud.

CapsoVision is developing CapsoCam Colon to examine the colon, with automated polyp detection and technology to measure polyp size. This is a planned expansion, not a current revenue source: sales require applicable FDA or EU clearance and satisfaction of related conditions.

CapsoVision’s results depend on adoption of capsule endoscopy covered by reimbursement amid competition from IntroMedic, JinShan and Ankon, and on critical components supplied solely by Largan, Toshiba and Moai/Speedbridge.

  • Medtronic competes for CapsoVision’s customers by selling PillCam capsule endoscopy systems to the gastroenterology practices and hospitals that buy CapsoCam capsules. Watch Medtronic’s exclusive supply arrangements with some larger GI practices and hospitals, particularly in the U.S. Northeast: these can last up to three years and limit CapsoVision’s access to those buyers.
