Culp supplies the fabrics that manufacturers use to cover mattresses and furniture. Bedding fabrics and sewn mattress covers generate most of its sales, while upholstery fabrics and cut-and-sewn kits provide another substantial revenue stream. Most products ultimately serve the U.S. market. Its Read Window Products business also sells window treatments and provides measuring and installation services to commercial and hospitality customers.
Culp combines its own manufacturing with outside production. It retains activities such as design, finishing, quality control and logistics while relying on suppliers for much of its upholstery production. Woven bedding fabrics come primarily from a long-standing supplier in Turkey, and upholstery sourcing relies partly on a limited group of strategic suppliers in China. Reliable supply and appealing designs are important to winning and fulfilling manufacturers’ orders; tariffs on imported products also affect costs and pricing.
Large manufacturers account for a substantial share of sales. Serta-Simmons Bedding, including its subcontractors and licensees, is its largest bedding customer, and La-Z-Boy Incorporated is its largest upholstery customer. Orders depend on spending on mattresses and furniture, housing activity, and commercial and hotel furnishing projects.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Watch Serta-Simmons Bedding, Culp’s largest bedding customer: sales to it and its subcontractors and licensees accounted for approximately 13% of Culp’s fiscal 2026 consolidated sales.
La-Z-Boy buys Culp’s fabrics for furniture it sells to consumers and retailers, making it Culp’s largest upholstery customer at approximately 12% of fiscal 2026 consolidated sales. Its upholstered-furniture sales are worth watching for what they signal about demand for Culp’s fabrics.
Somnigroup International buys Culp’s bedding fabrics and mattress covers for its mattress business, which includes Sealy and Tempur-Pedic and sells bedding to consumers. Demand for those mattresses helps indicate the demand reaching Culp’s bedding business.
Flexsteel Industries’ sofa and chair sales help drive demand for Culp’s furniture fabrics, which Flexsteel buys for its U.S. residential furniture business. Watch sales of those products through its retail partners and online channels rather than treating all its furniture sales as equally relevant to Culp.
Housing Starts (Sep)
New-home construction tracks homebuilding activity; for CULP, stronger activity can support furniture demand and sales of its upholstery fabrics and window-treatment services to manufacturers and commercial customers.
Expected1.31MLast release1.275M
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 1.31M estimate, it is above the previous 1.275M. If construction readings come in above estimates, more building can mean stronger demand for CULP’s upholstery fabrics and Read’s job-based window-treatment work for commercial customers, supporting sales.
If it comes in below expectations
If readings come in below estimates, weaker building activity can further dampen demand for CULP’s upholstery fabrics and Read’s commercial window-treatment projects, weighing on sales.
EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (Oct/16)
The weekly EIA report tracks US crude oil and fuel inventories; for CULP, tighter supply can lift oil prices and the cost of petrochemical-based materials and shipping, squeezing margins if those costs cannot be passed on.
A crude or fuel stock draw signals tighter supply and possible upward oil-price pressure, which could raise CULP’s material and shipping costs; a build signals looser supply and possible cost relief.
Somnigroup International Inc. earningsSGI
Somnigroup International’s report will show how mattress demand is changing, a signal for demand reaching Culp’s bedding fabrics and mattress covers.
Compare sales in Somnigroup International’s mattress business with changes in Culp’s bedding sales. Strength in both would indicate that consumer demand is reaching Culp; weaker mattress sales would mean less support for Culp from this customer’s market.
La-Z-Boy Incorporated earningsLZB
La-Z-Boy’s report will show whether its upholstered-furniture sales are strengthening, a demand signal from Culp’s largest upholstery customer.
Compare La-Z-Boy’s upholstered-furniture sales with Culp’s upholstery sales. Improvement in both would link better customer demand with a recovery at Culp; if La-Z-Boy holds up while Culp falls, market demand alone may not explain Culp’s weakness, and Culp-specific product or supply factors matter too.
Culp, Inc. earningsThis company
Culp’s report will show whether improvement in bedding can offset weakness in upholstery fabrics.
Read bedding and upholstery sales and gross profit together. If bedding sales and gross profit keep improving while upholstery sales stabilize, bedding is helping offset pressure in the other segment. If upholstery keeps falling and bedding sales or gross profit stop improving, the gains are not enough to support the business overall.
