Cytosorbents Corp. supplies hospitals with devices that remove inflammatory substances, toxins and certain blood-thinning drugs from blood. Its lead product, CytoSorb, connects to hospital blood pumps and passes blood through porous polymer beads that capture these substances outside the body. CytoSorb accounts for nearly all of the company’s product sales; it also sells related equipment.
Hospitals buy through direct sales or distributors and strategic partners. Payment for treatment depends on local hospital reimbursement systems, insurance or patient self-pay. Germany supplies a significant share of revenue, so hospital adoption and reimbursement there matter especially to the business.
CytoSorb is approved in the European Union. It has no general U.S. approval; its emergency authorization is limited to critically ill adults with COVID-19 and impending or confirmed respiratory failure. The company is also developing DrugSorb-ATR to remove blood-thinning drugs around cardiac surgery, but that device remains investigational and is not approved in the United States or Canada. Sales in additional markets depend on local registration and regulatory approval.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
CytoSorbents’ results hinge on hospital adoption and reimbursement for blood purification, with Vantive and Jafron supplying important competing cytokine-reduction products outside this list.
Fresenius Medical Care both competes with CytoSorbents through its cytokine-reduction products and promotes CytoSorb to hospitals on its critical-care platforms outside the United States. Watch implementation of that promotion agreement: delays meant no royalties were earned or paid in 2024 or 2025.
SeaStar Medical Holding Corporation sells QUELIMMUNE to hospitals treating critically ill children with sepsis-related acute kidney injury and is developing adult treatments, overlapping CytoSorbents’ hospital market for treating severe inflammation outside the body. Watch QUELIMMUNE hospital uptake: 10 active commercial hospital customers had completed the required registry process and bought it by December 31, 2025.
AETHLON MEDICAL INC could compete with CytoSorbents for hospital adoption of blood-purification devices for severe infectious diseases, although its investigational Hemopurifier removes enveloped viruses and extracellular vesicles rather than CytoSorb’s inflammatory substances. Clinical development and regulatory approvals are the milestones to watch before Aethlon can sell the device in the United States or abroad.

Fresenius Medical Care's report will show whether its promotion of CytoSorb on critical-care platforms is reaching hospitals and generating royalties for CytoSorbents.
Look for progress implementing the promotion agreement and any royalties tied to CytoSorb; delays meant CytoSorbents earned and received none in 2024 or 2025. Hospital promotion that moves ahead and generates royalties would show the partnership is beginning to produce income. Continued delay or no royalties would mean it has not yet converted into revenue, while Fresenius Medical Care's own cytokine-reduction products remain competitors.

CytoSorbents' report will show whether sales outside Germany can offset weakness there while the company protects gross margin and controls cash use.
Read sales by region alongside gross margin and operating cash flow. Growth outside Germany that offsets German weakness, with a steady margin and narrower cash outflow, would show that broader distribution and cost cuts are improving the business. If outside-Germany growth does not fill the gap, margin slips, or cash outflow stays heavy, reaching operating cash-flow break-even in the second half of 2026 becomes harder.
