Company

Company overview

Cricut helps users turn designs into physical craft projects. Users arrange designs in its Design Space app, then use a connected machine to cut materials such as vinyl or fabric. Machine owners can use free content, buy individual designs or pay for Cricut Access subscriptions that provide images, fonts, projects and software features. A subscription is optional.

Machines, accessories and materials together generate most revenue; subscriptions and digital content provide the other major stream. Cricut sells physical products mainly through retailers, including Amazon and Michaels, and also through Cricut.com. A small group of major retail partners supplies a substantial share of revenue.

The business depends on bringing in machine users and keeping them making projects, buying supplies and renewing subscriptions, which they are not obliged to do. Cricut also relies on three contract manufacturers in Malaysia for all its connected machines; they do not commit to specific quantities or prices.

Red flags

Know what’s buried in CRCT’s filings before you buy

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
