Company overview

Brightstar Lottery PLC helps government-regulated lotteries sell tickets and process bets through retail terminals, central systems and digital platforms such as OMNIA. Under its main service contracts, it installs and runs the technology while the lottery authority usually retains overall responsibility. The authority pays Brightstar fees generally based on ticket sales or wagers, so player spending feeds directly into revenue. These services provide most of its revenue; equipment sales and instant-ticket printing add a smaller stream. Brightstar generally owns the systems and funds their installation early in the contract.

In Italy, Brightstar takes a broader operating role. Through Lottoitalia and Lotterie Nazionali, it exclusively manages Italian Lotto and Gratta e Vinci, covering activities from game creation and wager collection to prize payments and retailer support. These licenses, awarded by Italy’s ADM, supply a substantial share of revenue. They are not renewable and can be terminated early under specified conditions.

The business depends on winning and retaining competitively awarded, long-term contracts. Its customer base is concentrated, with one customer supplying a large share of revenue. Legal authorization also defines where it can operate: in some jurisdictions, Brightstar has a retail lottery license but no corresponding digital license, limiting its ability to follow players online.
