Company

Company overview

Basel Medical Group treats patients who need orthopedic and neurosurgical care, from consultations and non-surgical treatment to surgery, rehabilitation and follow-up. Its specialist clinics generate most of its revenue, with individual patients contributing more than corporate patients. Major operations take place at hospitals and day-surgery centres where its doctors are accredited to practise. The group also provides general-practice care through Bethesda Medical Clinics, a smaller part of the business.

The group charges for services provided and medicines prescribed. Patients pay directly, or the group bills their employer or insurer when their employment benefits or insurance cover the treatment. Corporate relationships supply a significant share of patient volume, so maintaining those arrangements matters to demand.

The business depends on retaining specialist doctors and maintaining the licences needed to operate. Some licences belong to individual practitioners, so a doctor's departure can interrupt services while replacements obtain authorisation. Singapore's rules also restrict payments by doctors to insurers, managed-care companies and referral services, including prohibiting fee splitting and referral fees based primarily on treatment provided or fees collected.

Red flags

Know what’s buried in BMGL’s filings before you buy

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
