Blackbaud sells cloud software to nonprofits, foundations, schools and corporate social-impact programs. These customers use it to manage fundraising, supporter relationships, finances, grants and education administration. Its flagship Raiser's Edge NXT connects donor records with fundraising tools and payment processing. Most revenue comes from recurring software contracts, generally billed annually in advance under multi-year agreements.
Payment and transaction services provide another substantial source of revenue. Blackbaud Integrated Payments processes donations within its software, JustGiving supports consumer fundraising, and Blackbaud Tuition Management processes tuition and related payments for private schools. Blackbaud earns transaction fees and also receives voluntary donor contributions to offset processing fees; donation processing is the largest part of this transaction business.
The business depends on customers renewing their software contracts and on the volume and size of donations and other payments. Charitable giving affects both processing revenue and many customers' ability to pay for software. Handling sensitive donor data and payments also places limits on its services: privacy rules have restricted some features in the EU and UK, and payment-card security compliance is required to maintain transaction processing.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Blackbaud’s results hinge on nonprofit software renewals and donation and tuition volumes; privately held GoFundMe is an important consumer-fundraising rival missing from this list.
Salesforce competes for the nonprofits that pay Blackbaud for software to manage donor relationships and fundraising, including Raiser’s Edge NXT and Enterprise Fundraising CRM. Salesforce’s subscription-based relationship-management offerings for nonprofits are the part to watch, rather than its business across almost every industry.
Blackbaud both competes with Microsoft for business-software customers and uses Microsoft’s Azure computing infrastructure to deliver its cloud applications to nonprofits. Azure’s reliability therefore matters to Blackbaud’s service delivery, not just Microsoft’s own cloud business.
Oracle competes with Blackbaud when nonprofits consider paying for general business software instead of specialized nonprofit applications. Blackbaud says those alternatives often need substantial customization and consultants, making Oracle’s software integration and ease of deployment relevant to that choice.
Blackbaud, Inc. earningsThis company
Blackbaud earns from software subscriptions and transaction services, and this report will show whether renewals and transaction activity are supporting its revenue.
Read contractual recurring revenue alongside transactional recurring revenue, and watch gross dollar retention: how much contracted recurring revenue from existing customers remains. Steady or improving retention with growing transaction revenue would show renewals and activity in areas such as payments and tuition management both supporting the business. Falling retention alongside slowing transaction revenue would put both paths under pressure. Renewal-cohort size can affect reported churn dollars, so the direction of retention and transaction revenue says more than churn dollars alone.

Blackbaud uses Microsoft Azure to run its cloud applications, so Microsoft’s report can flag supplier risks, though Azure growth alone cannot show whether Blackbaud’s services stayed reliable.
Separate Azure growth from disclosures about service availability or outages. If Microsoft reports Azure disruptions that affect delivery, that would make the risk to the cloud infrastructure Blackbaud relies on more immediate, with possible effects on applications and payment processing. Strong Azure growth without reliability information shows demand for Microsoft’s cloud, not whether Blackbaud customers had uninterrupted service.
Salesforce, Inc. earningsCRM
Salesforce’s report can show how its relationship-management software is doing with nonprofits, the same customers Blackbaud seeks for donor-management and fundraising products.
Focus on demand and renewals for Salesforce’s nonprofit relationship-management and fundraising offerings; its total subscription revenue is not a direct measure of that business. Stronger traction in those products would signal a more capable rival for fundraising customers and greater pressure on Blackbaud to win and retain them. Weaker traction would soften that competitive signal, but would not prove that Blackbaud’s own renewals or sales improved.
