BioCryst Pharmaceuticals centers its business on ORLADEYO, a medicine it discovered and developed to prevent hereditary angioedema attacks. Most revenue comes from this drug, especially U.S. sales. In the United States, one specialty pharmacy buys the medicine from BioCryst, resells it to insurers and other healthcare payors, and dispenses it to patients with prescriptions. That pharmacy accounts for most of the company’s product sales, making it a critical customer and distribution link.
Outside the United States, BioCryst sells ORLADEYO through distributors and licensing partners. In Japan, Torii pays royalties tied to sales. BioCryst sold its European ORLADEYO business to Neopharmed but retained specified intellectual-property licensing rights and remains the territory’s exclusive product supplier; licensing connected with that sale was also a major revenue source.
The business depends on physicians prescribing ORLADEYO, patients staying on treatment, and insurers and government programs covering it. BioCryst and its partners must maintain regulatory approvals to sell the drug, and approved uses limit whom they can market it to.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
BioCryst’s results hinge chiefly on patients starting and staying on ORLADEYO for hereditary angioedema (HAE), with CSL and KalVista also important competitors beyond this list.
Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. sells DAWNZERA to prevent HAE attacks, competing for the patients and prescriptions that generate BioCryst’s ORLADEYO revenue. Watch DAWNZERA sales for signs of pressure on ORLADEYO’s patient uptake.
Pharvaris N.V. is developing oral deucrictibant to prevent HAE attacks, challenging the oral prevention market that pays BioCryst for ORLADEYO. Watch its pivotal Phase 3 prevention study of the extended-release tablet, rather than its separate on-demand treatment results.
Intellia Therapeutics, Inc’s Phase 3 HAE gene-editing treatment lonvo-z could replace ongoing prevention with BioCryst’s daily ORLADEYO. Watch its development and approval progress: Intellia planned a U.S. launch in the first half of 2027, conditional on both.
Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited sells TAKHZYRO to prevent HAE attacks, competing with BioCryst’s ORLADEYO for preventive-treatment prescriptions.
ADARx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is developing onvuzosiran for HAE, potentially competing for patients who receive BioCryst’s ORLADEYO. Its onvuzosiran clinical progress is the development to watch for this patient overlap.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s decision tracks the US policy rate that influences borrowing costs, which can change interest expense on BioCryst’s $400 million variable-rate Blackstone loans and the cash left for operations.

If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is higher than expected, higher borrowing costs may raise interest expense on BioCryst’s variable-rate loans and leave less cash for operations.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is lower than expected, lower borrowing costs may reduce interest expense on BioCryst’s variable-rate loans and leave more cash for operations.
Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited earningsTAK
Takeda’s report will show whether TAKHZYRO is still drawing demand from the HAE-prevention patients and prescriptions it competes for with BioCryst’s ORLADEYO.
Watch TAKHZYRO sales and what Takeda says about demand. Resilient sales would show BioCryst faces a strong rival for prevention patients; weaker sales could ease that pressure, but would not establish that patients switched to ORLADEYO.

BioCryst’s report will show whether U.S. patient demand and paid shipments are still lifting sales of its oral HAE-prevention drug ORLADEYO.
Read U.S. ORLADEYO sales alongside total revenue. Rising U.S. sales would show the core drug business can keep expanding after the European business sale; if total revenue rises while U.S. sales stall, other sources such as licensing may be driving growth, not stronger patient demand.
