AZZ Inc. helps industrial customers protect metal from corrosion and give it a finished appearance. AZZ Precoat Metals, the larger of its two revenue-producing businesses, cleans, treats, paints and cures steel and aluminum coils before customers cut and form them into products such as building materials and appliances. Distributors, fabricators and manufacturers pay for this processing. AZZ Metal Coatings treats already-fabricated metal, mainly by dipping steel into molten zinc to form a corrosion-resistant coating—a process called hot-dip galvanizing.
These two businesses generate all of AZZ’s sales, with coil coating contributing somewhat more than metal coatings. Neither depends on a single major customer. Demand follows customers’ construction and industrial activity, and galvanizing plants generally serve nearby markets. Earnings also depend on recovering zinc, paint and natural-gas costs through service prices; AZZ cannot always pass cost increases to customers.
AZZ also owns a non-controlling interest in the independently operated AVAIL joint venture, now primarily an industrial-lighting business. This is an investment rather than another source of coating-service sales, and AZZ does not have sole authority over its decisions.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
AZZ’s recurring results hinge on North American metal-coating volumes, but disposal gains from its unlisted AVAIL joint venture inflated fiscal 2026 earnings.
Nucor both buys coating services from AZZ’s Precoat Metals business and supplies it with steel, tying AZZ to the steelmaker on both sides of the transaction. Nucor’s steel and steel-product sales offer a read on construction and manufacturing demand that also drives AZZ’s coating volumes.
Simpson Manufacturing Co., Inc. and AZZ share exposure to North American construction: Simpson sells connectors and anchors for wood and concrete structures, while AZZ coats fabricated steel and metal coils used in building products. Simpson’s North American connector and anchor sales are worth watching for clues to the building demand behind AZZ’s coating work.
CSW Industrials, Inc. and AZZ both depend on construction and heating and cooling demand: CSW sells equipment and building products, mainly through wholesalers and distributors, while AZZ coats metal for manufacturers serving those markets. Watch CSW’s Contractor Solutions sales of evaporator coils and air handlers for a view of the equipment demand behind AZZ’s HVAC-related coating work.
Nucor Corporation earningsNUE
Nucor’s report offers a read on steel-market demand; Nucor both buys coating services from AZZ’s Precoat Metals business and supplies it with steel.
Watch Nucor’s steel and steel-product sales. Stronger sales would point to firmer demand in construction and manufacturing, giving AZZ’s Metal Coatings volume a more supportive backdrop; weaker sales would signal possible pressure on coating demand. Nucor buys services from and supplies steel to AZZ, but its sales do not directly measure AZZ’s orders or steel costs.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
AZZ’s variable-rate borrowing can reset as interest rates change, affecting the interest it pays and the cash left to run its metal-coating businesses.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed’s policy rate is higher than expected, AZZ may pay more interest on the unhedged portion of its variable-rate debt, leaving less cash for its coating operations and other needs.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed’s policy rate is lower than expected, interest costs on the unhedged portion may ease, leaving AZZ more cash for its coating operations and other needs.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
Industrial production tracks output from factories, mines and utilities; when it strengthens or weakens, demand from AZZ’s steel-fabrication customers for galvanizing and from manufacturers for coil coatings can change, affecting service and coating sales.
Stronger output can signal more demand for the steel-processing and coil-coating services AZZ provides; weaker output can signal less demand and fewer sales opportunities for both segments.

AZZ’s report will show whether demand is lifting volumes in both coating businesses and whether selling prices are keeping pace with costs.
Read volume and operating income together for each business: processed-steel volume for Metal Coatings and coil-coating volume for Precoat Metals. If both volumes and operating income rise, demand is translating into sales without costs or pricing noticeably eroding profit. Falling volume or operating income would point to weaker demand or pressure on what each business keeps from its sales. Operating income is profit from the business after operating expenses.
