AMD’s opening rally fades; shares close up 1.8% alongside chip peers
AMD remains in the chip-sector pullback rather than leading a recovery. Its 1.8% gain faded from a stronger opening and left it slightly behind its peers.
AMD opened Monday up 4.4%, but finished just 1.8% higher, near its low for the day. All four chip peers rose, with a median gain of 2.1%, while the S&P 500 added 0.4%. Trading volume was ordinary: 20.0 million shares against a typical 19.2 million, giving little sign of a fresh rush into AMD itself.
The bounce leaves AMD down 9.5% over the past five trading days, worse than the typical chip peer’s 7.4% decline. Over the past 21 trading days, though, AMD’s 3.9% loss is close to the group’s 4.6% decline, so the recent lag does not yet establish a lasting split from peers. Today’s fading rally leaves AMD participating in the sector’s rebound without leading it.
