Company overview

Allegiant Travel Company connects underserved small and medium-sized U.S. cities with leisure destinations. It flies nonstop, less frequently than many airlines, and adjusts capacity to seasonal and day-of-week demand. Its customers are chiefly residents of those cities taking leisure trips.

Passenger spending supplies most of its revenue. Travelers buy a base fare, then pay separately for options such as baggage, seat assignments and Allegiant Extra extra-legroom seating. These optional air-related charges bring in more revenue than base fares, making passengers’ willingness to buy extras important to sustaining low advertised fares. Most bookings come through allegiantair.com; direct sales avoid many travel-agency distribution fees and let passengers add hotel rooms, rental cars and other travel products during booking.

The business depends on discretionary leisure travel demand and matching flights to that demand. Fleet replacement and expansion also depend on Boeing delivering new 737 MAX aircraft. U.S. aviation approvals limit where and how Allegiant can operate, and some new scheduled destinations require additional government authorization.

Allegiant has agreed to acquire Sun Country Airlines, but the transaction remains subject to shareholder approvals and regulatory review; the airlines have not yet combined.

Allegiant’s results hinge on U.S. leisure demand, fares and fuel costs, with its proposed acquisition of Sun Country Airlines adding material approval, transaction-cost and integration risks.

  • Frontier competes directly with Allegiant for price-sensitive leisure travelers: both sell low base fares and charge separately for extras such as bags and seat selection. They overlapped on 26 nonstop routes at December 31, 2025, making Frontier’s fares and optional-service revenue useful things to watch.

  • Southwest is Allegiant’s largest disclosed nonstop rival: both sell domestic passenger flights, overlapping on 73 routes at December 31, 2025. Watch Southwest’s fares and flight frequency on those routes, where its frequent service offers travelers an alternative to Allegiant’s limited-frequency flights.

  • Allegiant’s planned growth depends on Boeing delivering the new 737 MAX jets it buys from the aircraft maker. Allegiant expected 11 deliveries in 2026 at the time of its filing; further delays would limit its ability to schedule additional growth in late 2026 and beyond.

  • JetBlue competes with Allegiant for leisure passengers buying point-to-point flights, with 11 overlapping nonstop routes at December 31, 2025. Watch JetBlue’s fare and service choices: its tickets include a carry-on bag, Wi-Fi and snacks, while Allegiant sells base fares separately from optional extras.

  • American Airlines Group gives Allegiant’s leisure passengers an alternative through connecting flights from small markets, as well as competing on 16 nonstop routes at December 31, 2025. American’s regional airlines carry passengers from those smaller markets to its hubs, so changes to that connecting service matter alongside its nonstop offering.

  • United’s domestic fares and flight capacity shape Allegiant’s competition for paying passengers, with 12 overlapping nonstop routes at December 31, 2025. Watch United’s pricing and seats offered on those shared routes rather than treating its much wider passenger network as a direct match for Allegiant.

  • Delta competes with Allegiant for domestic passengers on nine overlapping nonstop routes at December 31, 2025, despite its much broader global network and greater premium focus. Its domestic flight additions are the closer signal for Allegiant than growth in premium products or international service.
