Company

Company overview

ADMA Biologics, Inc.’s main products, ASCENIV and BIVIGAM, provide antibodies by intravenous infusion to patients with primary immunodeficiency. ASCENIV brings in most of the company’s revenue, with BIVIGAM the next-largest product. It also sells Nabi-HB for specified hepatitis B exposures. Sales are overwhelmingly in the United States, through distributors, wholesalers and specialty pharmacies that supply infusion providers. BioCare and Priority Healthcare Distribution, known as CuraScript, together account for most revenue, making these customer relationships central to the business.

ADMA collects plasma through its ADMA BioCenters subsidiary and buys additional plasma from outside suppliers, then separates and purifies it at its Boca Raton, Florida facility to make its medicines. ASCENIV uses patented screening and carefully selected plasma pools that combine ordinary plasma with plasma containing high levels of antibodies that neutralize respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Suitable high-antibody plasma is uncommon, and ADMA relies on third-party purchases for this supply. Selling plasma not used in its own medicines provides a smaller revenue stream.

Production depends on the Boca Raton facility, with no alternative manufacturing facility arranged if it is lost. ADMA and its suppliers must maintain FDA approvals and manufacturing compliance. ASCENIV is approved for primary immunodeficiency; marketing it for other indications requires additional successful clinical trials and FDA approval.

ADMA’s results hinge on ASCENIV adoption, high-titer plasma supply and manufacturing yields; CSL Behring is another important immunoglobulin competitor to watch beyond this list.

  • ADMA depends on Grifols for high-titer RSV plasma used in ASCENIV and hepatitis B plasma used in Nabi-HB, even as both sell plasma-derived immunoglobulin medicines to healthcare providers. Watch the volume and price of Grifols’ ASCENIV plasma supply: the agreement requires at least 35,000 liters annually, with per-liter pricing that rises with volume and a minimum annual increase.

  • Takeda competes for the patients and treatment providers buying ADMA’s immune globulin medicines through its own plasma-derived therapies. Its plasma-derived therapy sales are the relevant business to watch for ADMA, rather than its broader prescription-drug portfolio.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

ADMA’s Fed interest-rate decision matters because it can shift the cost of interest on its $74.1 million term debt if that debt reprices, changing the cash left to fund its operations.
