Company

Company overview

Acorn Energy’s revenue comes entirely from its subsidiary OmniMetrix. Most comes from equipment and services that remotely monitor and control generators and other industrial equipment, with a focus on commercial and industrial customers. Products such as Omni and OmniPro collect operating data that service teams can use to diagnose problems before sending a technician, helping them choose the right personnel and parts. A smaller business sells monitoring equipment and services for gas-pipeline protection systems to gas utilities and pipeline operators.

Customers pay for monitoring devices and, if they use OmniMetrix’s monitoring service, periodic fees. Equipment sales and monitoring services each contribute a substantial part of revenue. Updated hardware also lets customers monitor equipment themselves or choose another provider, so buying a device does not necessarily bring OmniMetrix ongoing service revenue.

The business depends on customers renewing monitoring services and on third-party cellular and satellite networks carrying equipment data reliably. It also has a meaningful customer concentration: one power-generation customer accounts for a substantial share of invoiced sales.
